1. President Ram Nath Kovind on 21 Mar (Monday) confered two Padma Vibhushan, eight Padma Bhushan, and 54 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2022, at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

2. Amongst the prominent awardees at Investiture ceremony I, were Padma Vibhushan recipients; Radhey Shyam and General Bipin Rawat (Posthumous), Ghulam Nabi Azad, Smt. Gurmeet Bawa (Posthumous), N. Chandrasekharan, Devendra Jhajharia, Rashid Khan, Rajiv Mehrishi, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, and Sachchidanand Swami who received the Padma Bhushan awards.

3. Paralympic silver medalist Devendra Jhajharia receives his Padma Bhushan.
Hockey player Vandana Katariya receives the Padma Shri award, Para-shooter Avani Lekhara receives the Padma Shri award, in the Sports category from President Ram Nath Kovind.

5. *ASSAM* : Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the peace talk between the government and the ULFA ( Pro-Talk faction ) is going on in the right direction. In a written reply in the assembly, Mr. Sarma informed that this group declared indefinite ceasefire in the year 2011 and after that several tripartite talks were held.

6. *GOA* : Pramod Sawant was picked for the post of chief minister in Goa and will lead the BJP government in the state for a second straight term.

7. *Jammu and Kashmir* Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met MBBS students of the Union Territory at Raj Bhavan, Jammu who have returned from Ukraine.

8. *MANIPUR* : Former Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh took oath as the Chief Minister of the state for the second time. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhawan in Imphal and Manipur Governor La Ganesan administered the oath to Mr Biren Singh on 21 Mar. Five MLAs, four from the BJP and one from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), were sworn in as members of N Biren Singh’s council of ministers.

9. *MAHARASHTRA* , an earthquake warning system has been set up in the campus of Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Solapur University. This system has been developed by Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), Mumbai. With this set up, an early warning of an earthquake in an area of about four and a half to five hundred kilometers from Solapur will be received fifteen days in advance.

10. Shivaji Jayanti, (according to Hindu calendar) the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj celebrated in Maharashtra on 21 Mar. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his wife Rashmi Thackeray paid floral tributes to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Mumbai International Airport.

11. *UTTARAKHAND* : Pushkar Singh Dhami to continue as CM of Uttrakhand.

12. *KARNATAKA* : The mortal remains of a medical student from the state, who was killed in Russian shelling in war-torn Ukraine, arrived at the airport on Monday.

13. Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that the government is considering measures to reduce the fees for medical courses in the state and also National Medical Council (NMC) is looking into it, following the Ukraine crisis.

14. *TELANGANA* : The situation in Bodhan town of Nizamabad district remained peaceful on Monday a day after members of two groups indulged in protests and stone pelting over installation of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, police said. Four cases were registered and a total of 12 people who were involved in stone pelting were arrested so far.

15. *NAGALAND* : BJP leader S Phangnon Konyak is set to become the first woman Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland after winning the Rajya Sabha seat

16. *WEST BENGAL* : The TMC-led West Bengal government has introduced a common blue-and-white uniform featuring the ‘Biswa Bangla’ logo in all state-run schools. According to the notification, the Department of MSME and Textiles will be supplying the new uniforms. However, the move has garnered some criticism with a lawyer filing public interest litigation in Calcutta High Court against the use of the logo

17. Loans amounting to three thousand 119 crore rupees have been released to the beneficiaries by the lending institutions under the PM SVANidhi Scheme so far. This was stated by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

FINANCE:

18. Minister of State in the ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhary has informed that over 6.63 crore Income Tax Returns have been e-filed by taxpayers as on March 15 this year. In his written reply in Lok Sabha, the minister said that the Centralised Processing Centre in Bengaluru has processed more than 5.17 crore duly verified valid returns for the year 2021-22.

19. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke about the lowering of interest on the Employees’ Provident Fund from 8.5% to 8.1% for 2021-22. She said, “EPFO’s central board has representatives from different stakeholders who have taken this call…It had been 40 years since the rate wasn’t brought down.” She added, “There are today’s realities that keep us in context with the decisions.

20. Crypto mining cost not to be allowed as deduction under Income Tax Act: Govt
The infrastructure cost incurred in the mining of cryptocurrencies or any Virtual Digital Assets (VDA) won’t be allowed as a deduction under the Income Tax Act, MoS for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said. He said the government will come out with a definition of VDA with a view to levy 30% tax on income from the transfer of such assets n

21. The CBI on Monday recovered around ₹28 lakh cash and incriminating documents from the premises of a Senior Intelligence Officer after conducting searches at several locations. The searches were said to have been conducted at five locations at the premises situated in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. They were held in connection with a bribery case against the accused.

Reacting to ‘The Kashmir Files’, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said the film is creating a situation that may cause “great harm” to India’s social unity and integrity. Yechury added that his party was the first to speak out against the plight of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, with its MLAs addressing the issue in the former Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
