1. Guru Purnima, was celebrated yesterday to honour pivotal role of teachers and spiritual mentors in the society. It falls on the full moon day of Ashadha month. On this day, People express gratitude to teachers and spiritual mentors who guided and shaped their lives with their wisdom and blessings. This day is also called as Vyas Purnima to commemorate the birth anniversary of sage Ved Vyas. On GURU PURNIMA : Lord Buddha had given his first sermon on this occasion after achieving enlightenment under the bodhi tree at Bodhgaya. He had travelled to Sarnath from Bodhgaya and gave his sermon on the full moon day. Thus, the followers of Lord Buddha worship him on this day.

2. The 2024 Kanwar yatra begins on 22 July, Monday. Kanwar Yatra or Kawad Yatra is an auspicious pilgrimage observed by the devotees of Lord Shiva annually. This yatra is also called Jal Yatra as in this practice the bearer known as ‘Kanwariyas’ or Kanvadias go the Hindu pilgrimage places like Sultanganj in Bihar, Gangotri and Gaumukh in Uttarakhand and Haridwar to fetch water from the Holy Ganges and then offer the ‘Ganga Jal’ to Shiva temples in their hometowns.

3. Ahead of the Budget session of Parliament today, the government held an all-party meeting to ensure the smooth functioning of both the Houses.

4. The Centre has advised Kerala government to implement immediate public health measures to control the spread of Nipah virus.

5. In Gujarat, ten teams of NDRF have been deployed in Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Dwarka, and Gir Somnath districts in view of the red alert issued for heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.

6. The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Kanwar Yatra beginning today.

7. The Department of School Education and Literacy will observe Shiksha Saptah starting today, which will continue until the 28th of this month. The aim of Shiksha Saptah is to promote collaboration and the impactful educational reforms introduced by National Education Policy 2020 among students, educators, and stakeholders.

8. Change in school timings in Telangana . All high schools in Telangana, except in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, will function from 9 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. “with immediate effect”, as per new directions by the government conveyed to school heads and district educational officers on Friday. The old timings were 9.30 a.m. to 4.45 p.m.

9. In Jammu and Kashmir, over three lakh 86 thousand devotees have performed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, so far since the beginning of the pilgrimage. The yatra started on 29th of last month.

10. The Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR) won the best technology award at the 96th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for its cutting-edge work in horticultural studies.

11. In Uttar Pradesh, the redevelopment work of Mau Junction railway station is being done at a fast pace, said the Ministry of Railways on Sunday. The renewal is being done under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana.

Nitish Kumar, the Bihar Chief Minister and the national president of the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U) is in a tight spot, and interestingly, the source of the unease is his party itself as the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the JD(U) on Sunday asked Kumar to “reconsider the alliance with the BJP” at the Centre.

13. The government has convened an all-party meeting on July 21 ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has convened a meeting of the floor leaders of political parties in Parliament to understand issues they would want to raise during the session.

14. Former Maharashtra Minister of State for Home, and veteran BJP leader Madhavrao Kinhalkar joined the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) at a the massive Vijayi Sankalp Melava organised by the party in preparation for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections.

15. The Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday dissolved the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, days after the party’s poor showing in the Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state.

1. The Union Public Services Commission on Friday initiated action against controversial trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar, issuing a notice for the cancellation of her candidature for the Civil Services Examination 2022.

2. The Bombay High Court has directed social media intermediaries to take prompt action against deepfake videos of National Stock Exchange (NSE) managing director and CEO giving stock recommendations. The court directed social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram to remove all accounts infringing upon the trademark of NSE.

3. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has released instructions stating that drivers would be charged double the toll if they do not have the FASTag attached to their windscreen from the inside.

4. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board, alongside other organizations, issued a joint statement on Saturday, denouncing the Uttar Pradesh government’s order to transfer students from Madarsas to government schools.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das flagged concerns over the widening gap between credit and deposit growth saying it will expose the system to structural liquidity issues as household savings are increasingly moving moving away from the traditional bank deposits to capital markets and other financial intermediaries.

1. The Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday reviewed the prevailing security scenario south of Pir Panjal at a joint security review meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies.
