1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to very dense fog conditions at isolated pockets of the northern and eastern parts of the country for the next three to four days.

1. Former Punjab kabaddi player held running immigration racket : A 42-year-old former national kabaddi player Mandeep Singh, a resident of Talwandi Chaudhrian village in Punjab’s Kapurthala,
has been arrested by the IGI Airport police for allegedly orchestrating an illegal immigration racket. He as facilitating unauthorised journeys to the United States through fraudulent means.

A Delhi court on Tuesday deferred to January 31 its verdict in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case related to murder of two persons in Saraswati Vihar area against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar after the prosecution sought time to further argue on certain points raised by the defence counsel on January 8.

A massive fire broke out in a multi-storey shopping mall in Barrackpore, North 24-Parganas, on Tuesday afternoon, leaving three floors of the building gutted.

The fire that engulfed Atindra Mall located on Ghoshpara Road in Lalkuthi, close to Barrackpore railway station, gutted a cafeteria, a restaurant, apparel shops and a multiplex of the building.

1. GOI Launches ‘Entity Locker’: The government introduced Entity Locker, a digital platform for efficient management and verification of business documents, inspired by DigiLocker.

2. Indian Economy Growth Revised to 7%: Moody’s revised India’s FY25 GDP growth projection to 7%, down from 8.2%, due to a global economic slowdown.

3. RBI Mandates ‘1600xx’ for Transactional Calls: Banks must use ‘1600xx’ series for transactional calls and ‘140xx’ for promotional calls to prevent fraud.

4. The Government has said that over four crore Sukanya Samriddhi accounts have been opened across the country. The scheme was launched on 22nd January 2015 as part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. This scheme allows parents to open a Sukanya Samriddhi account for girls at any post office or designated commercial bank branch, starting with a minimum initial deposit of 250 rupees.

5. Skyroot Aerospace would invest `500 crore in setting up a private rocket manufacturing, integration and testing unit in Telangana.

1. India has successfully tested the ‘Bhargavastra,’ its first indigenous micro-missile system designed to counter drone swarms. The system can detect and neutralize drones up to 6 km away, with the ability to launch 64 missiles simultaneously.

2. The Indian Navy’s guided-missile destroyer, INS Mumbai, is actively participating in the fourth edition of the multinational exercise La Perouse.

3. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India successfully conducted a ground test of an advanced “Cooled Scramjet Engine,” marking a significant milestone in the development of next-generation hypersonic missiles. This achievement is pivotal as hypersonic missiles are capable of traveling at speeds exceeding Mach 5, which is over 5,400 km/h, and can potentially evade existing air defence systems.

4. Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a contract with Heavy Vehicles Factory, a unit of Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited, for the procurement of 47 Tank-72 Bridge Laying Tanks (BLT) for the Indian Army at a total cost of ₹1,560.52 crore. The contract was inked by the senior officials of MoD and HVF/AVNL in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on 21 January 2025.

5. Pakistan is poised to enhance its naval capabilities significantly with the impending addition of eight Hangor-class submarines, built in collaboration with China. This development marks a crucial step in modernizing the Pakistan Navy, which aims to expand its fleet and improve its operational effectiveness in the region.

6. At least 14 Maoists have been killed in a joint inter- state operation in Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. Central Committee member of Naxalites Jairam alias Chalpati has also been killed in this encounter. A reward of 1 crore rupees was declared on him.
