1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu greeted citizens on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr and urged all to take a pledge to promote brotherhood and harmony in the society on this occasion.

Today Ramadan is celebrated after the month long fasting of the Muslims is over. Ramadan is one of the most important festivals in Islam. The fasting is held in the ninth lunar month. So, Ramadan falls on the first day of the tenth lunar month of Muslim calendar. The exact timing depends on the visual sighting of the moon at the local area. It is also known as Id-ul-fitr as fitr comes from “fatar” meaning breaking of the fast. It is also called as Ramzan in some parts of the world.

2. Akshaya Tritiya is also observed today. It is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. Today Parashurama Jayanti also observed, he was the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and his birth anniversary is celebrated as Parshurama Jayanti. It falls on Tritiya (third day) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh. This day is also known as Akshaya Tritiya and the day is considered good to start or do anything auspicious.

8. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will be offering free merchandise to people who download its app, the party tweeted on Friday. In a statement, the party said that the app was to inform people about the political outfit and to make them aware about party’s policies.

9. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot on Friday said all Congress workers should focus on thinking about how to win the next election and shouldn’t do any work that can cause damage to the party. His remarks came after Congress MLA Sachin Pilot went on a daylong strike over inaction by the Gehlot government against corruption during Vasundhara Raje’s tenure as CM.

1. The CBI has issued a notice to former J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik asking him to answer queries related to Reliance insurance scam case. Malik had claimed that he was offered ₹300 crore in bribes to clear two files.

2. Drones and sniffer dogs were used and a chopper conducted a recce of the dense forest area in Poonch on Friday in a manhunt for the terrorists who took life of five Indian Army personnel on Thursday. An NIA team visited the spot and inspected the vehicle that was attacked.

3. A massive fire broke out in a transformer and spread to an adjacent plastic godown located on Topsia Road in Kolkata on Friday. No casualty was reported in the incident.

4. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi compared the killers of gangster-turned- politician Atiq Ahmed to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse. He called them terrorists and “Godse ki najayaz aulad (Godse’s illegitimate sons)”. “They are radicalised and walking in the footsteps of Godse.

1. SBI said that India’s foreign exchange reserves increased by $1.657 billion to $586.412 billion for the week ending April 14, marking a second consecutive weekly increase.

1. Top Army and police officials on Friday paid homage to five soldiers martyred in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Five soldiers lost their lives and one was injured on Thursday after their vehicle was attacked by terrorists and caught fire. The soldiers were from a Rashtriya Rifles unit deployed for counter-terror operations.

2. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced an ex-gratia of ₹1 crore each to the families of the four Army personnel from the state martyred in the Poonch terror attack. Five soldiers were martyred and another was seriously injured in the terror attack on a military truck on Thursday.

3. Wing Commander Deepika Misra was conferred the Vayu Sena medal by Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Marshal VR Chaudhari on Thursday, making her the first woman Air Force officer to receive a gallantry award.

Wing Commander Deepika Misra is a trained helicopter pilot, qualified flying instructor and an instrument-rated instructor and examiner.
She was among 58 personnel who received the gallantry award during the investiture ceremony held in Delhi.

4. Defence Ministry orders immediate reopening of five of six closed roads in Secunderabad Cantonment.

These roads in Secunderabad Cantonment are — Ammuguda road (500 metres), Byam road (500 m), Albain road (700 m), Empress road (900 m), Protenee road (500 m) and Richardson road (300 m). These stretches have remained closed for years over security concerns.

5. The wife of one of the 20 braves killed in a skirmish with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley in June 2020, Rekha Singh is set to get commissioned in the army as a lieutenant.

Rekha was married to Naik Deepak Singh of the 16th Battalion of Bihar Regiment who was killed in action in the remote valley while fighting numerically superior Chinese soldiers on June 15, 2020, and was posthumously awarded Vir Chakra (VrC) for his heroism in November 2021. She will be among the 200-odd cadets, including 40 women, who will graduate from Chennai-based Officers Training Academy on April 29.

6. Indian Army has signed a deal with Solar Industries Nagpur to supply ‘Nagastra’ Loitering munition to the Indian Army.

Nagastra-1 has maximum range of 30 km in autonomous mode of operation and 15 kilometres in man-in-the-loop mode. It can loiter over a target for a maximum of 60 minutes and has an accuracy of less than 2 metres.
