Women’s reservation bill clears Lok Sabha 454-2
Twenty-seven years after the women’s reservation Bill was first introduced in Parliament, the Lok Sabha on September 20 passed a Bill with near unanimity to amend the Constitution and provide one-third reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.

The bill- Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam- was tabled by the government on Tuesday, making it the first bill to be introduced in the new Parliament building.

1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu greeted citizens on the festival of Nuakhai. In her greetings, the president wished for the prosperity of the country and its people.
(Nuakhai is an agricultural festival mainly observed by people of Western Odisha in India, the day after the Ganesh Chaturthi)

9. The GUJARAT government signed five MoUs for the proposed investment of 1,095 crore rupees in the State. The official release said the MoUs will lead to creating nearly 1230 employment opportunities in the State in the coming years.

10. In LADAKH, in an effort to boost enrolment in government schools, an Enrolment Drive was conducted at Government Girls Middle School Zgang Chiktan under Mission for Education Improvement in Government School (MEIGS).

11. MANIPUR BJP MLAs meet Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, brief him about ground situation of violent-hit State. They put forward the demand for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur. They also urged Raksha Mantri to initiate measures to stop poppy plantations in the State.

13. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on informed that the inauguration of the 108-feet-tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya on Omakareshwar will be on 21 September 2023.

14. Government launches three game-changing initiatives for farmers focusing on agri-credit and crop insurance.

(a) The Kisan Rin Portal (KRP), developed in collaboration with multiple government departments, is poised to revolutionize access to credit services under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

(b) The Ghar Ghar Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Abhiyaan is an ambitious campaign to extend the benefits of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme to every farmer across India.

(C) The Weather Information Network Data Systems (WINDS) initiative.

15. Lok Sabha will on Thursday hold a discussion on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill granting reservation to women on one-third seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies with near unanimity amid demands from the opposition to extend similar benefits to Other Backward Classes and immediate implementation of the measure before the elections next year. the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill, with 454 members voting in favour and two against it.

17. ANDHRA PRADESH CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday informed the Cabinet that the state administration will start functioning from Visakhapatnam from this coming Dasara festival. The government has also decided to appoint a committee to oversee the establishment of government offices in Vizag.

18. Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, announced a scheme to provide free electricity of up to 250 units to dhobi ghats and laundry shops owned by Muslim washer-folk in the state. The scheme has already been in place since 2021 for washermen belonging to Backward Castes (BCs), which has now been extended to the Muslim community.

1. DELHI court Wednesday acquitted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the murder of seven persons from the Sikh community in Sultanpuri area during the 1984 riots.

2. Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh’s Mumbai concert has been cancelled amid outrage over his social media posts. Shubh has been facing intense backlash after it was alleged that he supported Khalistani elements in a previous social media post and even shared a distorted map of India.

3. Edtech firm Byju’s announced on Wednesday, September 20 that the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) and head of India business Mrinal Mohit has resigned from the startup. Byju’s has elevated company veteran Arjun Mohan as the CEO of its India business.

4. Newly launched budget carrier Akasa Air has been forced to reduce flights amid a spate of resignations. CEO Vinay Dube told employees in an email late on Tuesday that the airline would give up market share in the short term to ensure stable operations.

1. Delhi High Court on September 20 restrained the misuse of the name, image, voice and other attributes of persona, including the “jhakaas” catchphrase, of actor Anil Kapoor for commercial gain.

2. International Cricket Council released the official Anthem for the Men’s Cricket World Cup beginning on the 5th of next month. The theme of the anthem is Dil Jashn Bole and it features Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh and other popular social media influencers.

The music for the anthem has been prepared by Pritam.

3. Tamil actor Cool Suresh was slammed by netizens on Wednesday after a video of him misbehaving with a woman on a public platform went viral on the internet. Suresh was seen forcefully putting a garland around a female host on stage, and the internet came down heavily on the actor.

On Wednesday, Suresh was seen attending the audio launch of Sarakku in Chennai and it was then that the shocking incident took place.

4. Manipuri actor Soma Laishram, who was recently barred from acting in films and attending public events following her participation in a beauty pageant, has strongly opposed the move. it had made to the people to desist from partaking in such programs amid the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Laishram, who has acted in over 150 Manipuri films and bagged several awards, posted a video on social media and said that she is shocked and disheartened over the development.

1. The Indian Navy has submitted a proposal to the government for the construction of a second aircraft carrier, The project is slated to be executed by the Kochi-based public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).

The proposed carrier, designated as the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier-2 (IAC-2), is part of India’s commitment to self-reliance in the defense sector.

2. Indian Naval Ship ‘Nireekshak’ successfully conducted vital Mixed Gas Diving training sessions as part of IN-SLN Divex 23.

3. IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari took the delivery of the plane, part of a ₹21,935-crore Make in India project to upgrade the IAF’s transport fleet, at a ceremony held at Airbus’ San Pablo site in Seville on September 13.

The first aircraft, which will be formally inducted into the IAF at the Hindan air base on September 25, is likely to take part in this year’s Air Force Day parade to be held at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on October 8 when the IAF celebrates its 91st anniversary.

4. The armies of India and the United States will host the 13th biannual Indo-Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference (IPACC), the 47th annual Indo-Pacific Army Management Seminar (IPAMS), the 9th Senior Enlisted Forum at the Manekshaw Centre in the national capital from September 25-27.

5. The Indian Navy and Air Force achieved another milestone by conducting the maiden air drop of a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RIB) from a C-17 aircraft near Visakhapatnam on 19 Sep 2023.

6. The Defence Ministry said that the Indian Army and the United States Army will co-host a joint military conference in New Delhi from the 25th to the 27th of this month.

7. Director General of National Cadet Corps, Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, yesterday inaugurated the All India Thal Sainik Camp at the Cariappa Parade ground of Delhi Cantonment.
