1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions over the plains of Northwest India, north Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat State for the next four days.

7. The Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani emphasised that all competition regulators worldwide are grappling with the emerging trends of digital markets. 9. Indian spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar received the first stamp released commemorating the completion of 200 years of Indian Origin Tamils in Sri Lanka. Governor of the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka Senthil Thondaman presented the stamp to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

10. The Supreme Court has instructed the Manipur government to provide financial aid to UPSC candidates in the state’s disturbed Hill districts. The financial assistance is to enable students to travel to examination centres outside the state.

11. The Telangana State government has announced plans to establish a school fee regulatory committee that aims to bring a systematic approach to regulating school fees and ensuring that quality education remains accessible to all.

12. The Delhi government on Monday directed all private schools in the city to announce summer vacation till June 30 with immediate effect. The decision comes in view of the severe heatwave conditions prevailing in the capital city.

13. NARSIMHA JAYANTI @ 21 May : It is celebrated on Vaisakh Chaturdashi (14th day) of the Shukla Paksh. Narsimha is the fourth incarnation of it Lord Vishnu where he appeared as a man-lion that is the face was like a lion and the trunk was like a man. He had killed demon Hiranyakashipu on this day. All Lord Vishnu devotees also observe fast on this day. It is known that Narsimha appeared during the sunset on Chaturdashi and that is why the puja is performed during those hours.

1. The Gujarat ATS has arrested four terrorists at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. According to the local authorities, all the arrested terrorists are residents of Sri Lanka and are associated with the Islamic State. They travelled from Sri Lanka to Ahmedabad via Chennai.

2. The Supreme Court refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation, PIL filed against the three recently enacted criminal laws replacing the IPC, CrPC and Evidence Act.

3. The Supreme Court recently told the Rajasthan government to close 68 mines that are less than one kilometer from the Sariska Tiger Reserve. This decision is part of a larger attempt to keep illegal mining out of the important habitat for tigers.

4. 1.8 million mobile connections to be blocked soon as part of the Government’s first countrywide operation to curb cyber crime and online fraud targetting Cyber thieves.

5. Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR has said that the article related to BHU Study on side effects of Covaxin is misleadingly and erroneously acknowledges ICMR. In a statement, ICMR said, it is not associated with this study and has not provided any financial or technical support for the research. Director General of ICMR, Dr Rajiv Bahl has written a letter to the authors of the paper and editor of the journal to immediately remove the acknowledgement to ICMR.

6. In Manipur, Bazaar Shop Owners community has called for a 24-hour total shutdown in Khwairamband Bazar area, Manipur decrying various problems occurring in the bazar area. The total shutdown will be effective from Monday midnight and till Tuesday midnight.

1. Rs 9900 Crore Credited to Bank of Baroda Gramin Bank Customer in Uttar Pradesh: A Wake-Up Call for RBI Banking Industry : A resident of Arjunpur village in the Durgaganj police station area, named Bhanu Prakash Bind, found over 9900 crore rupees credited to his bank account on Friday. The bank has since frozen the account and initiated an investigation.

The incident has raised critical questions about software vulnerabilities and prompted calls for a thorough investigation by a joint team of cyber and banking technology experts.

2. India’s largest private sector bank, HDFC Bank, has changed a major rule for its employees. The bank has changed the notice period for its employees. According to a report, earlier the employees had to serve a notice period of 90 days after resigning, now they will have to work only for 30 days. The bank hopes that this change will improve flexibility. This is the second private sector bank to make this change after ICICI Bank reduced the notice period from 90 days to 30 days in 2020.

3. Nearly 517 investors lost over Rs 200 crore in a massive scam orchestrated by Sri Priyanka Enterprises, a private finance company in Abids, Hyderabad.

The company, run by Nimmagadda Vani Bala, her husband Meka Netaji, and their son Meka Sriharsha, promised high interest rates to attract deposits.

4. In response to a first appeal filed under the Right to Information Act, State Bank of India stuck to its stand and again refused to provide a copy of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued to its branches for sale and redemption of electoral bonds. It justified the denial by saying the information sought was held by the bank in “commercial confidence”, was the “intellectual property of the bank” and the internal guidelines were strictly meant for the dealing staff.

Transparency activist Anjali Bhardwaj had filed an application on March 4 seeking the SOPs issued by SBI since April 2017.

1. General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence (CDS), paid a significant visit to the Airmen Training School (ATS) in Belagavi . During his visit, General Chauhan toured the prestigious training institution of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and received a detailed overview of the training regimen for Agniveervayu, the airmen inducted under the Agnipath scheme.

4. Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on Saturday arrested a man working at Goa Shipyard Naval base in Goa for allegedly sharing secret and crucial information related to the Navy with Pakistan secret agency ‘Inter Service Intelligence (ISI)’ after being honey trapped by a woman.

5. The Indian Navy is aiming to become the pre-eminent naval force in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), and a large part of this goal hinges on becoming self-reliant in all spheres of warship construction.

6. Senior IPS officer Idashisha Nongrang has been appointed as Meghalaya’s first woman DGP. She will be Meghalaya’s police chief until 19 May 2026.
