orop arrears case supreme court draws time schedule for payment of dues

OROP arrears case | Supreme Court asks Centre to pay ₹28,000 crore dues by February 2024. Saying the government is duty-bound to comply with its 2022 judgement on the matter.

3. The name of fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi wanted in a Rs 13,000-crore scam in the Punjab National Bank is understood to have been removed from the Interpol database of Red Notices on the basis of his plea to the Lyon-headquartered agency.

Red Notice is highest form of alert issued by the 195-member country-strong Interpol to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

4. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday ordered the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against former DGP S Chattopadhyaya and two other police officers over the security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state in January last year.

1. RBI has imposed a fine of ₹2.27 crore on RBL Bank for not complying with certain provisions of RBI’s directions on the internal ombudsman scheme, fair practices code and recovery agents engaged by banks, among others.

FDIC to break up SVB, wants to sell private unit separately: After failing to find a buyer for Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) last week, The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) decided to break up SVB and hold two separate auctions for its traditional deposits unit and its private bank. It will seek bids for Silicon Valley Private Bank until March 22 and for the bridge bank until March 24.

DEFENCE

1. Over 26,000 defence items uploaded on SRIJAN Portal and offered to Industry for indigenisation: The government has said that defence imports have reduced from 46% to 36.7% since 2018-19.

2. Pune will host two strategically important events to boost defence ties between India and African nations – the India-Africa Army Chiefs Conclave on March 28-29 and the 10-day Africa-India Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX 2023) from March 21.

Main aim of the exercise is to enable the participating contingents to hone their tactical skills, drills and procedures in joint operations for peacekeeping under UN mandate, create synergy and better understanding with armies of African nations and promote Indian defence Industries.

3. Supreme Court has directed the Centre to pay arrears to eligible family pensioners and gallantry winners of armed forces. The payment has to be made as per One Rank One Pension (OROP) Scheme by April 30.

4. Paras Defence and Space Technologies Limited has been awarded a major contract by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) for Avionics Suite for SARAS MK-2 Aircraft.The SARAS MK-2 Aircraft is the first Indian multi-purpose civilian aircraft in the light transport aircraft category being designed by the CSIR-NAL.
