At least 16 dead, over 100 feared trapped as landslide buries Maharashtra village.
The rescue and search operation at Irshalwadi hamlet in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, where a massive landslide buried several houses and claimed the lives of at least 16 people so far, resumed on Friday morning, an official said. The landslide occurred around 11 pm on Wednesday at the tribal village, situated on a hill slope, under Khalapur tehsil of the coastal district, around 80 km from Mumbai. Of the total 228 residents of the village, the bodies of 16 have been recovered, while 93 residents have been traced, he said.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who reached the spot early Thursday morning and oversaw rescue and relief operations throughout the day, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims. Shinde said the village was not on the list of landslide-prone areas.

14. The state government in Rajasthan has introduced a landmark legislation called the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023. This progressive bill aims to provide guaranteed wages or pensions to the entire adult population of the state.

1. People took out a huge protest rally in Manipur’s Churachandpur on Thursday after tribal women were paraded naked amid violence in the state. A video showed the protesters holding banners that read “Our lives are at stake, but our hope is strong”. The main accused has been arrested in this case.

He is serving a 20-year jail term in Rohtak for raping two women disciples at his ashram in Sirsa, Haryana. He has also been convicted in two murder cases.

5. Former RJD MLC, Azad Gandhi, was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in jail by the special MP/MLA court of Patna in a 2007 assault case.
