1. Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has emphasized the need for a cultural renaissance in the country by reconnecting with its rich heritage and classical languages. Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Bhavan’s Nandlal Nuwal Centre of Indology in New Delhi.

1. A sessions court in Kolkata’s Sealdah has sentenced prime accused Sanjoy Roy to life imprisonment in the RG Kar rape and murder case. Sessions Judge Anirban Das also held that the state government will have to pay the victim’s family compensation of 17 lakh rupees. Sanjoy Roy was declared guilty in the case by the court. Sanjoy Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police on 10th August.

2. Videos of Karnataka Traffic Police addressing unruly drivers with loud, shrill air horns have gone viral on social media.

The footage shows police officers instructing drivers with excessively noisy horns to listen to their own honking at full volume, making them experience the disturbance they create for others on the road.

3. Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

3. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his Patanjali empire have found themselves in legal hot water yet again, this time in Kerala. The Judicial First Class Magistrate II in Palakkad issued a bailable arrest warrant against Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, and Divya Pharmacy—the marketing arm of Patanjali Ayurved—after they failed to appear in court on January 16. This is the first such warrant issued against the trio in Kerala and marks a significant step in the ongoing legal battles against the brand’s misleading advertising claims.

4. A court in Kerala on Monday sentenced a woman to death for poisoning her boyfriend in 2022. The 24-year-old convict, Greeshma, had sought leniency in sentencing by citing her academic achievements, lack of prior criminal history and the fact that she is her parents’ only daughter.

1. Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ has finally released in cinemas on Friday, January 17 much delay. It was orignally suppose to release in September 2024, but due to issues with the certification from the censor board, there was much delay. The CFFC finally granted it U/A certificate and suggested 13 cuts. But despite these changes, ‘Emergency’ has been banned in Punjab. The film has been getting rave reviews from all over and people are specially lauding Kangana for her portrayal of Indira Gandhi.

2. Akshay Akshay has praised Saif as ‘brave’ for protecting his family during the attack. He also humorously suggested that if they work together in a film again, it should be called Tu Khiladi.

Last week actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder who stabbed him multiple times on his neck and back. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital for surgery and is now out of danger and recovering.

3. Rishab Shetty’s prequel to Kantara is one of the most anticipated films of next year. The actor is currently filming Kantara: Chapter 1 in the forest area of Gavigudda, Karnataka. However, the team has now landed in fresh trouble. As per a report, the locals have accused the team for ‘causing damage’ to the forests.

1. The Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai has joined a nine-nation maritime exercise being conducted near the busiest shipping routes – the Malacca, Sunda and Lombok straits.

2. In Jammu & Kashmir, an army soldier was killed after sustaining critical wounds during an anti-terror operation in the forests of Zaloora Gujjarpati, Sopore area, of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

3. Newly-developed tactical missile ‘Pralay’ with 500-1,000 kg payload capacity and up to 500 km range will be showcased at the Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh announced the parade will feature 31 tableaux and 5,000 tribal artists.

4. Two Maoists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district yesterday. A jawan of the Cobra battalion has been injured in this encounter. The injured jawan has been airlifted to the capital Raipur.

5. Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh stated that a 160-member marching contingent and 190-member band contingent from Indonesia will take part in the Parade at Kartavya Path on 26 January 2025 along with the contingents of Indian Armed Forces.
