1. Amar Jawan Jyoti to be put out, ‘merged’ with flame at National War Memorial
After burning for 50 years, the eternal flame of Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate lawns will be extinguished forever. The torch will now be merged with the National War Memorial’s torch at a programme today, days ahead of the Republic Day. The ceremony — scheduled to begin at 3.30 pm– will be presided over by the Integrated Defence Staff chief, Air Marshal Balabadhra Radha Krishna

9. JHARKHAND : The Jharkhand govt on Thursday reduced the price of the RT-PCR test for COVID-19 detection in private labs to ₹300 from the existing ₹400. Separately, it also reduced the price of the Rapid Antigen Test from ₹150 to ₹50. Collection of samples from home for an RT-PCR test will cost an additional ₹100.

10. MAHARASHTRA: Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde said on Thursday that property tax on houses with an area of up to 500 square feet in Thane may be waived off. Shinde said that a proposal for the same was discussed at the government’s weekly cabinet meeting. CM Uddhav Thackeray announced a similar relief for Mumbai residents on January 2.

11. Maharashtra minister Varsha Gaikwad on Thursday said the state government has allowed reopening of schools for Classes 1 to 9 for offline classroom sessions from January 24.

15. What is the Centre proposing?
The Centre has proposed that each State shall make available for deputation to the Union government such a number of eligible officers of various levels, to the extent of the Central Deputation Reserve prescribed under existing regulations, adjusted proportionately by the number of officers available with the state government concerned against the total authorised strength of the state cadre at a given point of time, as per DoPT officials.

21. Central government’s vision to boost defence exports to friendly foreign countries, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has signed a contract with the Government of Mauritius for export of one Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH Mk-III) for the island nation’s police force.

22. The blast on Indian Navy’s INS Ranvir, which took life of three Navy personnel and left 11 injured on 18 Jan, may have been caused due to a gas leak in the air conditioning compartment, an official said.

23. Indian Armed Forces get single shot system from Swedish SAAB. The Swedish company SAAB is giving the Indian Forces AT4CS AST. This can be fired from confined spaces like bunkers, from inside buildings, and other urban environments.
This weapon can be operated by a single soldier and has proven efficacy against helicopters, armoured vehicles, personnel, structures, and landing craft.

26. Swinging into action over the alleged abduction of an Arunachal teen by the Chinese Army, the Indian Army has contacted its Chinese counterpart on Thursday. The Army has sought’s China’s People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) assistance to locate the teen and return him as per standard protocol. A 17-year-old Arunachal youth Miram Taron was allegedly abducted by the Chinese Army on 18 January from Zido village inside Indian territory.
