1. Rekha Gupta assumes charge as fourth women Chief Minister of Delhi; Chairs first Cabinet meeting.

Gupta, a first-time MLA, represents the Shalimar Bagh constituency. She won the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections with a margin of over 25,000 votes.

Former Leader of the Opposition in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta who braved Aam Aadmi Party’s brute majority and was marshalled out several times in the last decade will be the new speaker of the Vidhan Sabha.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first edition of the SOUL Leadership Conclave today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Prime Minister will inaugurate the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi today. Marathi was recently granted classical language status by the government.

3. Home Minister Amit Shah today said that all 8 states of the North East will be connected to Delhi through rail and air connectivity by 2027. Addressing the Unity Utsav- One Voice, One Nation in New Delhi yesterday.

The Home Minister mentioned that since 2014, more than 10,500 militants have laid down their arms in the North-East and 12 peace accords have been signed in the region between 2019 and 2024.

6. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued an advisory for online curated content publishers (OTT platforms) and self-regulatory Bodies of OTT platforms. The advisory was issued to ensure strict adherence to India’s laws and the Code of Ethics prescribed in the Information Technology Rules, 2021.

7. The 22nd Foundation Day of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) was marked by events emphasizing its role in safeguarding and advancing the rights of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram, praised the NCST’s proactive efforts.

8. The Arunachal Pradesh government has recently announced enhancements to the Dulari Kanya Scheme. This initiative aims to support the institutional births of girl children.

The Dulari Kanya Scheme was originally designed to provide financial support for the institutional births of girl children. The fixed deposit for these births has been increased from Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000.

9. The Delhi government has decided to implement the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.

She said that the Ayushman Bharat scheme, along with a top-up of 5 lakh rupees from the Delhi government, has been approved unanimously, and it will be implemented at the earliest.

10. Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan yesterday held a virtual meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to discuss the implementation and progress of agriculture and rural development schemes.

1. The Indian judiciary’s application of the death penalty has come under scrutiny following two recent murder cases with contrasting outcomes. On 22 January 2025, a civic volunteer received life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a medical student, while a woman was sentenced to death for poisoning her partner. These cases highlight ongoing debates regarding the ‘rarest of rare’ doctrine, which lacks a clear statutory definition.

The ‘rarest of rare’ doctrine emerged from a Supreme Court ruling in 1980. It stipulates that the death penalty should only be imposed in exceptional circumstances.

2. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy appeared before a special court on Thursday in connection with multiple cases, including alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct during past elections in the state.

3. The Uttarakhand government has recently approved a draft law that restricts land purchases by non-residents in most districts. This law is a response to long-standing public demands to protect local resources and cultural heritage.

4. A joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police arrested a suspected cadre of banned underground organisations, destroyed underground bunkers and seized arms, ammunition, explosives from multiple locations across Manipur, including the Indo-Myanmar border district.

Thirteen militants belonging to the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) outfit were nabbed in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Thursday.

1. The Union Government has released the Fifteenth Finance Commission grants for 2024–25 to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in Bihar, Haryana, and Sikkim. Bihar received ₹821.80 crores, Haryana ₹202.46 crores, and Sikkim ₹6.26 crores.

1. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is expected to recommend to the Indian government the acquisition of stealth aircraft as part of its modernisation efforts and driven primarily by India’s security assessments regarding its neighbouring threats, particularly from China. This decision comes in light of increasing regional tensions and a significant shortfall in the IAF’s operational capabilities.

2. GTRE (Gas Turbine Research Establishment) a sister concern of DRDO is advancing its Kaveri engine program by planning to conduct tests on older TEJAS airframes. These tests are crucial for gathering performance data that will inform the development of the next-generation Kaveri 2.0 engine, which aims to achieve a thrust of 90 kN.

3. The Indian Army is undergoing a significant transformation through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its operational framework, enhancing its capabilities in modern warfare. This shift is driven by the need for improved decision-making, situational awareness, and operational efficiency amid evolving security challenges.One of the key advancements is the Tactical Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (TAC-C3I) system.

4. On 20 February 2025, the Ministry of Defence of India signed a significant contract worth ₹1,220.12 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of 149 Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) intended for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).This initiative is aimed at enhancing the Coast Guard’s capabilities in various operational areas, including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue missions.

5. The Indian Navy is set to induct two new stealth frigates, INS Himagiri and INS Udaygiri, under the Project 17A initiative. This project aims to enhance the Navy’s capabilities with advanced guided-missile frigates that incorporate cutting-edge stealth technology.

6. Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has responded critically to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that “China is sitting inside this country,” which Gandhi made during a recent parliamentary session. General Dwivedi emphasized that the army should remain apolitical and not engage in political disputes, stating, “I must make an endeavour that the army should not be involved in politics”.

7. The Hindustan Jet Trainer-36 (HJT-36), previously known as Sitara, has been renamed ‘Yashas’ by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) following extensive modifications aimed at improving its flight characteristics. This new iteration incorporates significant design modifications aimed at enhancing its capabilities for Stage II pilot training and operational roles including counter-insurgency and aerobatics.

8. The Ministry of Defence signed contracts with ACE Limited and JCB India Limited for procuring 1,868 Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks (RTFLT) for the Indian armed forces. The procurement of Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks will cost ₹697.35 crore in total for the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy.
