1. NDA’s Vice Presidential candidate C P Radhakrishnan filed his nomination papers at the Parliament House yesterday.
2. The opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s Vice-Presidential candidate, former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy will file his nomination papers today. The Vice Presidential Election will be held on the 9th of next month.
3. The Parliament passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday. The Bill further amends the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017. It seeks to establish the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Guwahati in Assam which is an important centre of the North-Eastern region of the country.
4. Lok Sabha passes bill aiming to prohibit harmful online money gaming services.
5. Home Minister Amit Shah introduced key bills in the Lok Sabha amid uproar by opposition parties over various issues including Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive of electoral roll. The bills include, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The Bills have proposed that if the Prime Minister, Union Ministers or Chief Ministers, are arrested and detained in custody for 30 consecutive days for offences that attract a jail term of at least five years, they will lose their job on the 31st day.
*Opposition parties including Congress, AIMIM, and Samajwadi Party opposed the introduction of these bills terming it unconstitutional and anti-federal.
6. PM Modi will inaugurate the Aunta-Simaria six-lane bridge over the Ganga and a newly constructed four-lane road between Bakhtiyarpur and Mokama during his Bihar visit on Aug 22.
7. Telangana, state government on Wednesday issued a notification for allotment of retail liquor (A4) shops across the state, with a two-year licence beginning on 01 December 2025, and ending 30 November 2027. The order fixed the total number of shops at 2,620, the same as in the current cycle, and retained the licence duration at two years.
8. IIT Madras has indigenously developed and licensed to the industry India’s first silicon photonics-based high-speed quantum random number generator in a deal worth 1 crore rupees.
9. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday transferred over Rs 456 crore directly to the bank accounts of more than 6.51 lakh families affected by the recent flood.
10. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu clarified that the state government has no intention of stopping the Electric bsubsidy of any consumer. He also assured that the existing scheme of giving free electricity up to 125 units will continue and the government is also trying to increase it to 300 units in the future.
11. Indian Railways has taken a significant step toward sustainable transport innovation by commissioning India’s first removable solar panel system between railway tracks. Installed at the Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi, this green energy initiative showcases the railway’s growing commitment to renewable energy integration and eco-friendly infrastructure.
On 19 August 2025, the Ministry of Railways announced the operationalization of a 70-metre removable solar panel system, consisting of 28 solar panels generating 15 kWp, positioned between railway tracks.
12. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat region and also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Maharashtra and North-Eastern parts of the country for the next two to three days.

1. The government is actively working to ensure uniform application of the ‘creamy layer’ concept in reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This initiative aims to address inconsistencies across central and state government jobs, public sector units, universities, and other organisations.
2. The Union Home Ministry recently clarified before the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) can nominate five members to the J&K Legislative Assembly without consulting the Council of Ministers. This has raised questions about constitutional provisions and democratic principles in Union Territories (UTs) with legislatures.
3. In Chhattisgarh, 29 Maoists, including ten females, surrendered before security forces across the state. They were carrying a reward of about fifty-five lakh rupees.
4. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked on Wednesday during her weekly ‘Jan Sunvai’ programme at her official residence.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted angrily after an AAP legislator said the attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, who was slapped by a man allegedly over a recent court order against stray dogs, was “a drama to create a story”.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the next generation of GST reforms will usher in India’s journey towards becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Minister made this statement while addressing the Group of Ministers (GoMs) constituted by the GST Council on Compensation Cess, Health and Life Insurance, and Rate Rationalisation in New Delhi.
2. The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a six-lane access-controlled capital region ring road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total capital cost of ₹8,307.74 crore, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
3. The Stand-Up India Scheme, launched in April 2016 to promote entrepreneurship among Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and women, has achieved a significant milestone. As of August 2025, banks have sanctioned ₹62,791 crore in loans to 2,75,291 beneficiaries, according to information presented in Parliament by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.

1. India successfully test fired Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile ‘Agni 5’ from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, off the Odisha coast.
2. The Indian Air Force is seeking to procure an advanced Expendable Active Decoy (EAD) swarm system to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities. This system will feature high-speed drones that can confuse and overwhelm enemy air defense systems, integrating sophisticated EW payloads and chaff dispensation mechanisms.
3. A reputed Russian defense news outlet has reported that the 400 km range 40N6C missile of India’s S-400 system shot down a Pakistani AWE&C and a Turkish-made Akinci UCAV operated by Pakistan air force’s number 65 knight squadron over Dinga in Pakistan, with Pakistani locals confirming that two aircraft were shot down in the area.
4. The cabinet committee on security has approved the purchase of six Netra Mark II aircraft and 97 Tejas Mark1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force at a cost of 62,000 crore rupees. This is the second major order after the earlier 83 Mark1A jets worth 48,000 crore rupees, bringing the total to 180 Mark1A fighter jets.
5. Indian Army SSC Tech 66 Notification 2025 : The Indian Army has invited applications for the Short Service Commission (SSC) Tech 66 Entry 2025 from eligible male and female engineering graduates. A total of 381 vacancies are available, INCLUDING 350 for men and 31 for women. Candidates selected through this entry will be commissioned as Lieutenants after completing training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA). Unmarried male and female candidates aged 20 to 27 years can apply through the official website, joinindianarmy.nic.in.
6. UK Royal Navy appointed its first-ever Hindu chaplain in August 2025.
Acharya Bhanu Attri, who grew up in Himachal Pradesh but now lives in Essex, formally passed out of Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth last week and is also the Royal Navy’s first non-Christian chaplain. He is selected as the first Hindu chaplain to serve in the Royal Navy.
He will provide spiritual guidance, cultural support, and pastoral care to Hindu sailors and personnel of all faiths. In the UK military, as a whole, there are more than 1,550 Hindus serving full-time, mostly in the army.
7. On August 15, 2025, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) commissioned the CGS Dharumavantha, a Doğan-class fast attack craft donated by Türkiye. Previously known as TCG Volkan, the vessel was transferred under a defense cooperation agreement between the two countries.
