PM Modi leads MPs to New Parliament building
The PM, flanked by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP chief JP Nadda, walked to the new building.

The 1927 building, where Jawaharlal Nehru delivered his famous “tryst with destiny” speech, has now been renamed as what PM Modi termed Samvidhan Sadan. A colourful procession led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the historic switch over from the 96-year-old iconic circular building to the mammoth lion-capitol-topped triangular edifice on Central Vista as the home of India’s democracy moved next door on Tuesday.

1. WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL that seeks to provide 33% quota for women in Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies was introduced in the Lok Sabha in the ongoing special session of Parliament.

2. Reservation for women in state legislatures and Parliament: The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the 128th Constitution amendment bill, proposes a 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures. This bill is aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of women in Indian politics. Currently, only 15% of the Lok Sabha is comprised of women, and none of the state assemblies have more than 10% women.

3. The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over the Eastern part of the country till the 22nd of this month.

4. YASHOBHOOMI : The recently inaugurated Phase 1 of the India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC) worth Rs. 5,400 crores in Delhi boasts impressive features, including 10.7 lakh square meters of total built-up area, a 9,000 square meter LED screen, and India’s largest media facade, designed to provide live event broadcasts. It is the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.

More than 200 events lined up at ‘Yashobhoomi’ at Dwarka in 2 yrs: The focus sectors of these events would be digital innovation, hospitality, entertainment, healthcare, automobile, infrastructure, travel and tourism, and smart manufacturing.

5. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the conference of National Human Rights Institutions of the Asia Pacific region in New Delhi today.

6. PM Modi unveiled the new name for the former Parliament building as ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ or ‘Constitution House,’ signifying a dedication to safeguarding India’s democratic legacy.

7. Aditya-L1, India’s first space-based mission to study the sun, on Tuesday, left earth-bound orbits to enter its trajectory towards Lagrange point 1 (L1) from where it will observe the sun.

8. The Chairman of the University Grant Commission M Jagadesh Kumar has announced that Common University Entrance Test for Post-graduate programmes (CUET-PG) for the Academic year 2024-25 will be conducted from 11th March to 28th March 2024.

9. In Telangana, Hyderabad police (South Zone) conducted a flag march in communally sensitive areas of Old City as part of security preparations for two coinciding festivals: Milad un Nabi and the Ganesh chaturthi.

10. KARNATAKA Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said his government would approach the Supreme Court challenging the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s direction asking the State to continue releasing 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for another 15 days.

11. The Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) has established six thousand 467 Standard Clubs in schools and colleges across the country.

12. PM Modi praised the inclusion of Karnataka’s Sacred Ensembles of the Hoysalas in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In a social media post, PM Modi said that it is a matter of great pride for Bharat.

13. A high-level Election Commission of India (ECI) team will visit Telangana from 3rd of next month to assess poll preparedness in the state.

14. Transformative initiatives for Agriculture sector like Kisan Rin Portal and Door to Door Kisan Credit Card Campaign to be launched in New Delhi.

15. The proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament commenced in the New Parliament Building from yesterday onwards. On the Second day of the Special Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha will assemble in the new building at 1.15 PM while the Rajya Sabha will meet at 2.15 PM.

1. A 54-year-old Delhi Police Sub-Inspector died after being hit by a speeding car in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area on Tuesday, officials said. A driver of a pick-up vehicle was also injured in the same incident.

2. Canadian Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, known as Shubh, is facing opposition ahead of his upcoming concert in Mumbai as members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) tore down his posters, alleging his support for separatist Khalistani elements.

Shubh was scheduled to perform in Mumbai from September 23-25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event, organized aboard the Cordelia Cruise.

Khalistani Canadian rapper and singer Shubhneet Singh, had earlier shared a distorted map of India, which did not include J&K, North-East, Punjab.

1. The RBI released the names of 15 NBFCs that fall under the Upper Layer (UL)/NBFC-UL of the SBR.

Scale Based Regulation (SBR) is a revised regulatory framework introduced by RBI for NBFCs in India. This framework is designed to categorize NBFCs based on their asset size and activities.

2. The Finance Ministry has approved welfare measures for over 13 lakh LIC agents and 1 lakh employees. The changes include raising the gratuity limit for agents to five lakh rupees.

The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has launched a cutting-edge digital platform for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to seamlessly open NRE (Non-Residential External) and NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) savings and current accounts. This innovative service is specifically tailored to “new to bank” (NTB) customers, aiming to simplify and expedite the account opening procedure.

5. Nihar Malaviya has been named as permanent CEO of Penguin Random House, nine months after he was appointed the interim chief executive.

Penguin Random House is the world’s largest publisher of consumer books, with over 300 distinct imprints and publishing houses in more than 20 countries. It was formed in 2013 through the merger of Penguin Group and Random House.

1. The Oscar committee has started its process to select India’s official entry, and will soon be receiving about 20 entries from all over India. It has been learnt that some of the films, that have been sent to the Film Federation of India for Oscar selection, are Ghoomer and The Kerala Story, which are part of the women centric cinema from 2023. The final selection will most likely be announced on September 23.

2. Bollywood actors Kangana Ranaut and Esha Gupta were invited to the New Parliament building on September 19. Both actresses termed the Women’s Reservation Bill, tabled in the Lok Sabha.
