Delhi High Court has said that political parties cannot consider election symbols as their “exclusive property”. “The right to use the symbol can be lost with the dismal performance of the party,” said the bench. The observations came while dismissing an appeal by Samata Party against the allotment of the ‘flaming torch’ symbol to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

11. In Maharashtra, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is planning to set up more intensive care units (ICUs) in its hospitals by using around 300 ventilators that it received during the COVID-19 outbreak.

12. Telangana Congress on Saturday expelled senior party leader M Shashidhar Reddy for a period of six years over “anti-party activities”. The action against Reddy came after his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar

13. Eight persons, including three women, were injured in an explosion at an ordnance factory near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris on Saturday, the explosion occurred at 8:20 am in the cordite section.

14. Ministry of Education on Saturday conferred the national-level award under ‘Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021-22’ to 39 schools from across the country. The schools selected from among the 8.23 lakh entries include 28 government and aided, while 11 are private schools

15. Arun Goel, a retired IAS officer has been appointed as the new Election Commissioner.

CRIME REPORT

1. Aftab Ameen Poonawala will be taken to different locations in south Delhi on Saturday as the Delhi Police are trying to locate more body parts which he had allegedly disposed of after killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar.

Poonawala allegedly strangled Walkar (27) on May 18 and sawed her body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a 300-litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in South Delhi’s Mehrauli before dumping them across the city over several days.

2. Bengaluru Police arrested three students of New Horizon College of Engineering after a video of them shouting “Pakistan Zindabad” went viral on social media.

3. Activist Gautam Navlakha, accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case, was released from Taloja jail and handed over to Navi Mumbai Police for house arrest on Saturday.

4. Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has sought a detailed report from the state Director General of Police relating to the incident of attacking and vandalizing the house of Nizamabad BJP Lok Sabha member Dharmapuri Aravind in Hyderabad.

1. The 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will begin on Sunday in Goa. The opening ceremony will be held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium near Panaji. A total of 280 films from 79 countries will be screened during the 9-day event.

2. Veteran actor Tabassum, known for her work as a child artiste in several Hindi classics and also as host of popular Doordarshan talk show ‘ Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 78.

1. Indian Army has registered Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of the new design and camouflage pattern uniform to establish its ownership. The Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademark, Kolkata, West Bengal has completed the registration. The Digital Pattern of Combat Uniform for Indian Army was unveiled on 15 Jan 2022.

2. An annual show, Air Fest 2022 showcasing maneuvers of planes & helicopters in the arsenal of the Indian Air Force(IAF) is organised at Head Quarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar in Nagpur on 19 Nov.

3. Army Chief General Manoj Pande recently received a Guard of Honour in Paris on 17 November 2022. He was on a visit to France from 14 to 17 November 2022.

4. General Pande was also on a four-day official visit to Nepal from the 5th to the 8th Nov. He handed over non-lethal military aid including Artillery Equipment, Mine Protected Vehicles, Medical Stores, and Horses to Nepal Army, to enhance the Military Cooperation between the two Armies.

5. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) handed over the last of the 16 maritime-role advanced light helicopters (ALH Mk-III) contracted with the Indian Coast Guard (CG).
