1. India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts extremely heavy rainfall for the next three days in the southern regions of the country, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over south Peninsular India during the next five days.

2. All arrangements have been put in place for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections today. 49 constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories will go to polls in this phase.

3. The states which will be going to polls in Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections are Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, along with two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 will see key candidates such as Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah and others.

5. The student enrollment under the Scheduled Caste category has grown by 44%, from 46 lakh in 2014-15 to 66 lakh in 2021-22. According to a report of the National Commission for Backward Classes, minority female student enrollment also witnessed over 42% increase, from over 10 lakh in 2014-15 to 15 lakh in 2021-22. Female SC enrollment increased by 51%, whereas that of ST students went up by 65.2%.

7. Telangana state cabinet will meet at 3 pm on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. This was decided hours after the Election Commission of India (ECI) gave its nod on Sunday on the condition that it takes decisions only on issues of an urgent nature.

8. Devotees visiting Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadadri, Telangana will have to adhere to a dress code from June 1. This rule is exempted for those coming for darshan in the general queue. 10. Gopi Thotakura, an entrepreneur and a pilot, on Sunday became the first Indian to venture into space as a tourist aboard Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin’s NS-25 mission.

Thotakura was selected as one of the six crew members for the NS-25 mission, making him the first Indian space tourist and the second Indian to venture into space after the Indian Army’s Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma in 1984.

11. PM Modi will start his poll campaign in Punjab with his first rally in Patiala on Thursday, Punjab BJP general secretary Rakesh Rathour on Sunday said the prime minister will address three public rallies in the state on 23 May and 24 May.

14. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, Country’s highest temperature seen in Delhi as Najafgarh sizzles at 47.8°C; all schools ordered shut in Ghaziabad, this was the highest temperature recorded in the country this year, followed by 47.7 degrees Celsius in Agra.

1. A District Court in Delhi has sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s close aide, Bibhav Kumar, to five-day police custody after he was arrested in connection with AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal’s assault case.

2. Delhi police has detained several Aam Aadmi Party workers marching towards the BJP headquarters in the national capital as part of Jail Bharo protest. Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC have been imposed on DDU Marg, and there is no permission for any kind of protest.

3. The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The Commission said, it has received a complaint from Trinamool Congress wherein it is alleged that the BJP published an advertisement in the Anandabazar and Pratidin newspapers on the 5th of this month containing, false, unverified and misleading statement to unduly influence the minds of the voters.

4. National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday called for “international probe” into killings by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, a day after twin terror attacks rocked the Valley amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

5. A court in Uttarakhand has sentenced a Patanjali official and two others to six months in jail after samples taken from the Patanjali Navratna Elaichi Soan Papdi (a traditional sweet) failed a quality test.

6. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday said that till now during Lok Sabha they have seized Rs 8,889 crore, with drugs comprising 45% of the total.

In response to PM Modi’s remark during an election campaign in Maharashtra’s Kalyan, where he said, “I challenge INDI alliance leaders to say five sentences on greatness of Veer Savarkar”, Kumaraval listed out some. He wrote in a post on X on May 16 that Savarkar is a “coward”, “co-conspirator in Gandhi’s assassination”, “expert in writing mercy petitions”.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Sunday strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Shopian and Pahalgam and said security forces have been given a free hand to bring the perpetrators of these attacks to justice. Terrorists struck at two places in Kashmir on Saturday night, killing a former sarpanch in Shopian.

1. 08 out of 10 senior business leaders have already deployed artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance existing revenue streams or create new ones, a new study by Tata Consultancy Services, a global leader in IT services, found recently.

2. Norway’s central bank has excluded Adani Group’s port firm, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), from its government pension fund due to ethical concerns.

This makes APSEZ the 15th Indian company to face such action, following previous exclusions of companies such as ONGC, GAIL, NTPC, and Vedanta.

3. Sanjiv Puri, the Chairman and Managing Director of ITC, has been appointed as the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the term 2024-25, announced the chamber on Sunday.

4. State-owned Bank of Maharashtra recorded the highest growth rate last fiscal in terms of total business and deposit mobilisation among public sector lenders at a time when most banks are facing difficulty in achieving double-digit growth.

The Pune-headquartered lender has registered a 15.94 per cent rise in the total business (domestic) in FY24, followed by the country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) with 13.12 per cent growth.

5. India Ratings and Research (Ind-RA) has projected a moderation in the country’s GDP growth rate for the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023-24, with an expected rate of 6.7%.

6. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has relaxed Know Your Customer (KYC) rules. As per a circular dated May 14, SEBI announced that investors can now invest in mutual funds even if their Aadhaar card and PAN card are not linked.

6. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a revised schedule for the auction of Government of India treasury bills (T-bills), reflecting a strategic move to enhance liquidity in the banking sector.
