1. The India Meteorological Department has forecast cold wave to severe cold wave conditions over Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

5. The Ministry of Ayush has launched a comprehensive initiative to promote AYUSH systems of medicine internationally, which aims to enhance global awareness and recognition of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homeopathy.

6. PM Modi has extended the greetings to the people on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day. In a social media post, Prime minister Modi recalled the bravery and determination of the women and men who were actively involved in the movement to free Goa.

7. Central Railway has announced plans to run 34 special trains to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic during Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The Mela will be held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26.

8. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 met in New Delhi under the Chairpersonship of Lok Sabha MP Jagdambika Pal and heard the views and suggestions of All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) on the Bill.

9. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare is observing National Good Governance Week, 2024. As a part of this, a national workshop on Effective Redressal of Pension Grievances was also organised.

15. Noted author from Nagaland, Easterine Kire, has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Award 2024. The Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 21 languages.

1. National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted searches at multiple locations in four states in an inter-state arms trafficking case. The searches were conducted at 12 locations in Bihar, three locations in Nagaland, one location in Haryana, and one location in Jammu and Kashmir.

2. Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi and other Congress Members of Parliament (MPs) following a scuffle on Parliament premises on Thursday hours after BJP and Congress members filed cross complaints alleging “assault and attempted murder”. According to the BJP, their MPs Pratap Rao Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained injuries amid protest and counter-protest by the ruling BJP and opposition members.

3. Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh has dismissed a no-confidence motion moved against the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Opposition parties had moved a no-confidence motion against the chairman, alleging working in a partisan manner.

1. The National Tansen Award and Raja Mansingh Tomar Award were given in the world famous Tansen Festival organized in Gwalior, the music capital of Madhya Pradesh. Renowned tabla player of Indian classical music Pt. Swapan Choudhary of Kolkata was honoured with the “National Tansen Samman” for the year 2023.

2. Culture ministry started financial assistance for veteran artists & scholars over 60 years: Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said. The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance of a maximum of six thousand rupees per month to the old artists and scholars aged 60 years and above having an annual income not exceeding 72,000 rupees.

1. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting in New Delhi. The meeting primarily focused on critical security issues, with a special emphasis on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

2. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have successfully developed a new lightweight bulletproof jacket named ABHED (Advanced Ballistics for High Energy Defeat). This initiative is part of the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoE), established to foster collaboration between academia and industry for advanced defence technologies.

3. Two soldiers of the Indian Army were killed and another was injured in an ammunition explosion during a tank training exercise at the Mahajan field firing range in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on 18 December 2024.The incident occurred while the soldiers were loading ammunition into a tank when a charger exploded.

4. Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of the Indian Navy, hosted a significant deck reception aboard the INS Mysore in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 18 December 2024. This event was part of a goodwill visit aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between India and Indonesia.

5. On 18 December 2024, India and China held the 23rd meeting of their Special Representatives (SRs) in Beijing, marking a significant step in addressing border tensions that have persisted since the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh began in 2020.

India and China have reached a significant agreement to enhance bilateral relations, marked by a six-point consensus announced on December 18, 2024. This agreement aims to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, facilitate cross-border river cooperation, and revitalize trade at the Nathu La border.

6. Five Terrorists Gunned Down In J-K’s Kulgam District: An encounter between security forces and terrorists occurred in Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, on December 19, 2024. The operation began during the early hours when security forces initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the Kadder area of Behibagh, following intelligence about the presence of suspected terrorists.
