1. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA’s) Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan will file his nomination today.
2. Opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc has fielded former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice-Presidential election. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge made the announcement about the decision during a press conference in Delhi.
3. The government has approved development of Green Field Airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of 1,507 crore rupees. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the Union Cabinet’s decisions while briefing media in New Delhi.
4. Cabinet has also approved construction of a 6-lane access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road in Odisha at a cost of over 8,307 crore rupees.
5. The Parliament has passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today. The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill. The bill will further amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957.
6. The Lok Sabha has passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Moving the Bill, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the Bill will further amend the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017. He said the bill seeks to establish the Indian Institute of Management at Guwahati in Assam which is an important centre of the North-Eastern region of the country.
7. Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will be launched on the 3rd of October this year.
8. The double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk will be inaugurated on Wednesday (August 20) evening by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
9. IMD issues red alert of heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its neighbouring districts.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports: In Telangana, heavy rains triggered floods like situation in several parts of the state, especially in North and east Telangana districts. Heavy rainfall for the past few days led to inundation of low-lying areas and caused damage to roads and crops. Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad districts on Wednesday (20 August 2025).
10. PM Modi Pays Tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur on Birth Anniversary. Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur (1908 – 1947) was the last ruling king of Tripura, a princely state in northeastern India. He is remembered as a visionary ruler and is often called the “Architect of Modern Tripura”.

1. Union Minister of Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has accused the Tamil Nadu government for not giving more than 5 lakh houses to the people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). The Minister said that the State government has also not conducted a required survey to identify those people who need houses.
2. Proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament were disrupted over the issue of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The Lok Sabha was adjourned three times while the Rajya Sabha witnessed one adjournment before being adjourned for the day.
3. The Delhi government has instructed all departments to halt any harsh measures against stray dogs. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta issued the directive after the Supreme Court reserved its order on pleas regarding the issue last week.
4. In Telangana, A parking dispute, where members of the Jain and Marwari community allegedly assaulted a man from a marginalised caste using caste-based slurs, has ignited a statewide campaign-now branded as the “Marwari Go Back” movement.
Predictably, the issue has taken a political turn. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State, has dismissed the campaign as a calculated attack. In his words, this is “a conspiracy against Marwaris and Gujaratis because they support the BJP and Sanatana Dharma.”
5. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that there is no government-run donation campaign for Nimisha Priya, the Indian nurse from Kerala who has been on death row in Yemen since 2020. Priya faces charges of murdering her Yemeni business partner, Talal Abdo Mahdi, in July 2017.
6. Rahul Gandhi’s campaign in Bihar against alleged vote theft has enthused Congress leaders over 1,000km away in Uttarakhand, where the party rolled out the “Vote Choron, Gaddi Chhoro” drive on the first day of the four-day monsoon session of the Assembly.

1. Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Maharashtra, crippling normal life across Mumbai as waterlogging disrupted the movement. A cloudburst in Nanded district claimed eight lives, with Hasnaal village still 80 percent submerged. The Army, along with the State Disaster Response Force, is actively conducting rescue operations, relocating residents, setting up medical camps, and distributing food.
2. The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has risen above the danger mark of 205.33 meters, reaching 205.78 meters.
3. A major breakdown on Mumbai’s Monorail line left nearly 200 passengers stranded for over three hours near Mysore Colony station on Tuesday evening. The incident, caused by a power supply failure amid heavy rains.

1. The Government clears Rs 62,000 cr deal to buy 97 LCA Mark 1A jets for Indian Air Force, The final approval for the acquisition of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighters was given by a high-level meeting on Tuesday and will pave the way for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to produce the aircraft.
2. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Tuesday released a special module on Operation Sindoor for students from classes 3 to 12.
3. The Supreme Court of India has taken suo motu cognisance of the plight of officer cadets who were medically discharged during training at elite academies like the NDA and IMA after suffering disabilities that occurred before commissioning, excluding them from ex servicemen status and benefits under the Ex Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme despite incurring lifelong injuries. At the NDA alone, around 20 cadets were discharged on medical between 2021 and July 2025.
4. Indian Navy to induct S4 3rd Nuclear SSBN Aridhaman*: The Indian Navy’s S4 SSBN, the Aridhaman, is nearing the completion of its sea trials. This 7,000-ton submarine is armed with eight Vertical Launch System (VLS) tubes capable of firing a variety of SLBMs, including the K-15, K-4, and the 6,000 km range K-5.
5. Solar Industries has introduced the Nagastra-2B, a bunker-busting loitering munition with a heavy high-explosive payload designed to take out reinforced bunkers and main battle tanks.
6. Indian Military College Admissions 2026: DoE has invited application for admission to the Rashtriya Indian Military College for the term July 2026. Students applying for admission should not be younger than 11.5 years of age and must not be older than 13 years as on 01 July 2026.
7. Indian Air Force’s Mega Drill Near LoC | 19–21 August: From August 19 to 21, 2025, the Indian Air Force is conducting a major exercise near the Line of Control, involving over 100 fighter jets and surface-to-air defense systems like the S-400. The drill includes large force engagements and missions for offensive and defensive counter-air and suppression of enemy air defenses.
