1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu unveiled the new flag and insignia of the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi yesterday.

President Smt Droupadi Murmu has said that reducing pendency of cases is a big challenge facing the judiciary. Addressing the two-day National Conference of District Judiciary at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi yesterday, the President said all stakeholders should come together and find solutions to address the backlog of cases.

5. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu inspected the visited flood-hit areas in Vijayawada. The Chief Minister ordered for immediate assessment of crop damage as floodwaters recede. He assured that every farmer affected by the floods will receive fair compensation.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of being a “mute spectator” in the face of “continuous attacks” on minorities, especially Muslims, and demanded the strictest action against “anarchist elements” behind such incidents. His comments come in the wake of two incidents of mob violence in BJP-ruled Haryana and Maharashtra.

1. West Bengal is still witnessing ongoing protests against the brutal rape and murder at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital and demand for justice for the victim. Artists, doctors, students and common people took part in a rally of the civil society. The march began from College Square to end at Dharmatala. Actors Aparna Sen, Chaiti Ghosal, Swastika Mukherjee, and others participated in it.

2. A Guwahati-based explosives firm has been named by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for its alleged connection in an arms and explosive trafficking network supplying Myanmar insurgents. The firm, Albarin Explotech, found a mention in a recent chargesheet filed by the country’s top anti-terror agency in connection to an arms and explosives seizure in Mizoram’s Aizawl.

3. The Central Consumer Protection Authority has imposed a penalty of 5 lakh rupees on Shankar IAS Academy for publishing false and misleading advertisements regarding the results of the UPSC Civil Service Exam 2022.

4. The Manipur government has reimposed curfew within the jurisdiction of Imphal under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 from Sunday (1 September) onwards.

Curfew was initially imposed starting from 7 am on Sunday, but it was relaxed after fresh inputs on law and order and it will come into force from 10 pm to 7 am of next morning every day till a fresh order is issued. People have been advised to remain indoors and not venture out of home during curfew hours imposed under the new Act.

5. A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi has sentenced three individuals in the 2020 Khaja Moideen ISIS case. The accused had indiscriminately fired at a police party to evade arrest.

6. A third-year law student was found dead in a hostel room at a law university in Lucknow on Saturday night. The victim, 19, was the daughter of a senior IPS officer who is currently posted with the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

7. Eleven candidates died while undertaking physical tests during a drive to recruit excise constables in Jharkhand, police said on Sunday.

Physical tests under the Jharkhand excise constable competitive examinations began on August 22 in seven centres across Ranchi, Giridih, Hazaribag, Palamu, East Singhbhum and Sahebganj districts.

8. Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar on Sunday said all books glorifying Mughal emperor Akbar and referring to him as great “will be burnt”. The minister’s statement came during his visit to Udaipur, where he was addressing a gathering during an event in the Vivekanand Auditorium of Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
