1. The withdrawal process for the second phase of assembly elections in Jharkhand has been completed. Thirty-two candidates withdrew their nomination papers for this phase. Now, 528 candidates are in the fray. The first phase of polling will take place on the 13th of November in forty-three constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on the 23rd of November.

2. Isro launches analogue mission in Ladakh to simulate life outside Earth. The mission aims to simulate life in an interplanetary habitat, addressing the challenges that future astronauts may encounter. It includes the Gaganyaan program, which aims to send Indian astronauts into space.

3. The new train ticket advance reservation booking rules have come into force from yesterday. The Railways has reduced the existing time limit for advance reservations in trains from 120 days to 60 days. However, all the bookings done upto 31st October this year will remain intact. According to the Railways Ministry, it was observed that about 21 percent of reservations done for 61 to 120 day periods were getting cancelled.

4. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya has called upon youngsters to apply for the prestigious National Youth Awards 2022-23. The award is conferred on individuals, aged between 15 and 29 years, and organizations for excellent work and contribution in different fields of development and social services. It includes health, promotion of human rights, active citizenship and community service. The award comprises a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of one lakh rupees to the individual and a cash prize of three lakh rupees to the organization.

5. The states of Andhrapradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab, along with the union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, and Lakshadweep, celebrated their State Formation Day today, and a program was organised at Andhra Pradesh Raj Bhavan under ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.’
6. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu launched the Deepam 2.0 scheme in Edupuram in Srikakulam district, as part of the “Super Six Promises” initiative.

7. Kerala Governor Arif Muhammad Khan inaugurated the Kashmiri Youth Exchange Programme jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Kerala at Thiruvananthapuram.

8. AK Anil Kumar, an “outstanding scientist” at the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), was promoted to director of the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru.

9. Puducherry Liberation Day is being celebrated with great fervour yesterday. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy hoisted the national flag at the Liberation Day function held at Gandhi Tidal on Beach Road. He also received the guard of honor from the police during the Liberation Day parade.

10. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and other key portfolios, inaugurated the new complex of India’s first biomanufacturing institute—BRIC-National Agri-Food Bio-Manufacturing Institute (BRIC-NABI). The facility aims to transform India’s agri-food sector through advanced biotechnology, contributing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat”.

11. Telangana government to install solar power plants on temple lands. In the first phase, solar plants would be set up in 231.05 acres in 5 districts — Siddipet, Medak, Nirmal, Nizamabad and Nalgonda. To protect vast swathes of temple lands, the State government has come out with an initiative to set up solar power plants on these lands to generate green power.

12. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on 30th October that the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park, located in the Bankhandi area of Kangra’s Dehra assembly constituency, will be the first zoo in India to receive certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This certification will recognize the zoo’s commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure, setting a precedent for conservation efforts in the country.

13. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Civil Registration System (CRS) mobile application recently, aimed at integrating technology into governance and simplifying the registration of births and deaths. This initiative aligns with the government’s Digital India vision, designed to provide citizens with a seamless and efficient way to register vital events at any time, from any location, and in their state’s official language.

14. Pakistan’s former minister of state for interior Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju visited Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala’s family in Haryana and joined them at an event to felicitate the party’s two MLAs and join in the Diwali festivities.

The event, in which INLD president and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala was also present, was held at Chautala village in Haryana’s Sirsa district on Thursday evening.

15. Govardhan Puja is celebrated a day after Diwali, that is the fourth day. According to the Hindu calendar it falls on the first lunar day called as ‘Ekam’ of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight of moon) in the month of Kartik. It forms an integral part of Diwali celebrations. Govardhan Puja commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over Indra.

1. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has moved the Supreme Court seeking permission to construct a major bridge over the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal at Pawala village in Fatehgarh Sahib as part of a new Greenfield Expressway which will connect Chandigarh with Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor.

The 135-km Expressway will start from Tricity (Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula) to Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib district) and will terminate at Sehna (Barnala district) on Amritsar-Jamnagar Corridor.

2. The ongoing demolition drive in Hyderabad continues to draw significant attention as authorities prepare for the next phase of their operations. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has announced plans to target specific areas for demolition due to illegal constructions and encroachments.

One of the focal points of the upcoming demolition drive will be the unauthorized encroachments around Mir Alam Tank.

3. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five senior Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) officers, including an additional commissioner and a joint commissioner from Indian Revenue Service, and three superintendents last week, as part of its probe into an alleged ₹50 lakh bribery case registered on 5 September.

1. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) conducted muhurat trading on the occasion of Diwali, marking the beginning of Samvat 2081. BSE and NSE indices end on a positive note in Muhurat trading.

2. The National Stock Exchange has launched a mobile app as well as websites in eight additional languages to commemorate 30 years of operations. Trading in the equities market commenced on the NSE on 3rd November 1994. Managing Director and CEO of NSE, Ashishkumar Chauhan, announced that these languages include Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu, bringing the total number of languages supported by the NSE to twelve.

3. On Dhanteras, October 29, 2024, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revealed that it successfully transported an impressive 102 tonnes of gold from the Bank of England to secure storage facilities in India. This strategic move was part of the RBI’s meticulous planning to ensure the safe and discreet transfer of such a significant quantity of gold, reinforcing the nation’s reserves while aligning with the festive spirit of the occasion.

1. The Indian Army contingent comprising 25 personnel departed for Cijantung, Jakarta, Indonesia to take part in the 9th edition of India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise *GARUD SHAKTI 24* . The Exercise will be conducted from 1st to 12th of November 2024.

The Indian contingent is being represented by troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) and Indonesian contingent comprising 40 personnel is being represented by Indonesian Special Forces Kopassus.

2. Indian Army contingent departed yesterday for the 15th edition of India-US joint Special Forces Exercise VAJRA PRAHAR. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 01 November to 22nd November at Orchard Combat Training Centre in Idaho, United States. The last edition of the same exercise was conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya in December last year.

3. Indian Army on Friday began patrolling at Demchok areas in eastern Ladakh with the army sources noting that a similar exercise will be undertaken soon at Depsang.

The patrolling started after completion of the disengagement process under which the Indian and Chinese troops along with their weapons, equipment and shelter went back to the positions they held before April 2020 when the border tension erupted.

4. The Indian Naval Academy (INA) commemorated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on 31 October, with officers and sailors coming together in a solemn ceremony to honor the legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

5. Union minister Kiren Rijiju on November 1 interacted with soldiers of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) near Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh along the Sino-Indian border. He interacted with the Chinese soldiers during a visit to an Indian Army post on the occasion of Diwali.

Air Marshal Chakalayil Rajappa Mohan, a distinguished officer and advocate of self-reliance in defense, formally handed over the leadership of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Maintenance Branch to Air Marshal Ajay Kumar Arora after 38 years of dedicated service. Known for his visionary approach toward “Atma Nirbharta” (self-reliance), Air Marshal Mohan’s tenure has been instrumental in transforming the Maintenance and Logistics Branches of the IAF.

7. Senior IPS officer Amrit Mohan Prasad, director-general of Sashastra Seema Bal, will hold additional charge as Bureau of Civil Aviation Security chief. Incumbent BCAS DG Zulfiquar Hasan retired on October 31.

8. The Eastern Command of the Indian Army celebrated its 104th Raising Day, marking over a century of service, valor, and dedication by the “Warriors of the East.” On this special occasion, Lt Gen RC Tiwari, Army Commander, Eastern Command, extended warm wishes to all ranks, veterans, and their families, recognizing their unwavering dedication to the nation.

The Eastern Command was formed on 1 November 1920.[1] The Command is commanded by a three-star rank officer with the title General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C).

9. Rajesh Kumar Singh took over as Defence Secretary at South Block on Friday. He took over from the incumbent Giridhar Aramane, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre retired from service on Thursday (October 31, 2024) after a two year stint.
