1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu lauds the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) role in making India a global leader in digital payments.

2. Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 to come up for consideration and passing in Lok Sabha today.

3. Parliament has passed the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday. Lok Sabha has already passed the bill. The Bill seeks to establish the Institute of Rural Management Anand, as a University to be known as the Tribhuvan Sahkari University and to declare it as an institution of national importance.

4. The Rajya Sabha has passed the Protection of Interests in Aircraft Objects Bill, 2025. The bill seeks to give legal effect to the convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment.

5. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw calls for techno-legal approach to tackle crime.

6. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has criticized the ongoing controversy over the Hindi language in states like Tamil Nadu, stating that it is being fueled by political leaders for their narrow interests. He pointed out that such discussions could negatively impact employment prospects for the youth.

7. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that despite the rising prices of fertilizer in the international market, the farmers have been provided subsidized fertilizers at affordable cost by the government.

8. Oil marketing companies have reduced the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by 41 rupees per unit in Delhi. The price change for a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder will come into effect from 01 April.

9. Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan inaugurated the 62nd National Maritime Day and the Merchant Navy Week at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

10. Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge during the Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) urged the government to immediately start the decadal census, arguing that in the absence of the latest population data, several eligible beneficiaries are facing exclusion.

11. Janasena on Tuesday decided to extend support to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which is to come up for discussion and passage in the Lok Sabha on April 2. Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan said.

12. Tamil Nadu is set to receive much-needed rainfall in early April, bringing respite from the oppressive heat. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts.

LEGAL REPORT

1. The Supreme Court has rejected a plea by Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, who had appealed against the redevelopment project of Sabarmati Ashram. Gandhi claimed in his plea that the redevelopment would “alter the topography of the century-old ashram”.

2. The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a plea challenging the permission granted by the Allahabad high court to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to whitewash the Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal from the outside and install decorative lighting, provided no tampering was done to the structure.

3. The Delhi Court directed the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) and further investigation against BJP leader and Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra over his alleged involvement in the 2020 riots in the northeastern part of the city.

4. In Madhya Pradesh, a ban on liquor in 19 religious cities and areas under select gram panchayats including Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, and Maihar, comes into effect 01 April.

5. KANCHA GACHIBOWLI LAND AUCTION : A Massive protest rocks University of Hyderabad campuscampus : University of Hyderabad (UoH) students on Tuesday launched a massive protest on the university campus against the State government’s decision to clear the forested land in Kancha Gachibowli and auction it for revenue resources.

The Telangana government’s plans to develop IT infrastructure and others on 400 acres of land over which student groups of UoH held protests. The TGIIC (Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation) on Monday said it has proved its ownership of the land in court and that the UoH (a Central university) does not own any land in the land parcel in question.

According to Ecological Heritage report, Clearing the Kancha Gachibowli Forest (KGF) will be a major jolt to Gachibowli and surrounding areas, which are already struggling to breathe, as absence of the forest will increase the temperature from 1 to 4 degrees centigrade throughout the area.

6. The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth over Rs 110 crore of Lakhani India Limited and its group companies in connection with a bank loan fraud case. The companies are accused of defrauding multiple banks by misappropriating and diverting funds, leading to a fraud amounting to Rs 162 crore.

7. The Mumbai police on Tuesday issued a third summons to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and asked him to appear before them on April 5 in a case filed for allegedly making derogatory remarks on Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at a show in Mumbai.

1. At least 18 people killed in fire at a crackers factory in Banaskantha district of Gujurat.

2. A fire broke out in Krishna Apra complex at Noida’s Sector 18 market, causing several people to suffocate. The fire was quickly brought under control by fire officials, and the rescue operation is ongoing. Initial investigation suggests a short circuit caused the fire, and the injured have been hospitalized for treatment.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a PIL by TMC MP Mahua Moitra seeking transparency and investor awareness in India’s financial markets by mandating public disclosure of ultimate beneficial owners (UBO) details as well as portfolio holdings of alternative investment funds (AIFs) and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).

2. India’s coal sector has crossed the milestone of one billion tonnes in cumulative production for the financial year 2024-25, reaching over 1,047 million metric tonnes.

1. Kiran Rao’s directorial film Laapataa Ladies received huge praise from the critics and audience alike. The film was a huge hit among fans and was India’s official entry to the Oscars 2025. However, the film recently faced controversy with allegations of plagiarism. The film is said to be a copy of a 2019 Arabic film called Burqa City.

2. Sunny Deol and Arshad Warsi’s film Bhaiyaji Superhit is set for a grand re-release on 10th April.

3. Film maker Priydarshan says that he will start writing Hera Pheri 3 starring Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty next year.

Priyadarshan is currently working on Bhoot Bangla, a film that reunites him with Hera Pheri stars Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Tabu.

1. Army mountaineers to scale Kanchenjunga by the end of May 2025. The mountaineering team of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) has set off to scale Kanchenjunga, the highest peak in India. Standing tall at more than 8,000 metres, it is also the third highest peak in the world.

Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth flagged off the NIMAS Mount Kanchenjunga Expedition 2025, the mission will begin on April 7.

2. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Army Field hospital established by an Indian medical contingent has treated around 104 patients as part of Operation Brahma in the earthquake-hit Myanmar.

3. Force Motors Limited has landed a contract to supply 2,978 Force Gurkha light vehicles to the Indian Defence Forces. This marks a significant milestone for the manufacturer and reinforces the OEM’s strategic importance in India’s defence logistics.

4. Defence exports have surged to a record high of over 23,600 crore rupees in the Financial Year (FY) 2024-25, registering a growth of 12.04% . The Ministry, in a statement today, said that Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) have shown a significant increase of 42.85 percent, with 8,389 crore rupees in exports.

5. The fourth edition of EXERCISE TIGER TRIUMPH, the bilateral Tri-Service India-US Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief exercise has begun today at Visakhapatnam. This exercise is aimed at developing interoperability and formulation of Standard Operating Procedures for conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations between the two countries.

6. On April 1st, INS Gharial departed Visakhapatnam for Yangon, Myanmar, carrying 440 tonnes of relief material, including rice, edible oil, and medicines, as part of India’s “Operation Brahma” to support earthquake-stricken Myanmar.
