1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced a new scheme called NPS Vatsalya under the National Pension Scheme (NPS) for minors. The scheme enables parents and guardians to initiate pension planning for their children by making contributions that accumulate until the child reaches 18 years old.

2. India’s wholesale price index (WPI)-based inflation fell to a four-month low of 1.31% in August, down from 2.04% in July. This decline is primarily attributed to reduced prices of manufactured products and food items.

3. The government has scrapped the windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil with effect from 18 September. The windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil will be zero, the government said in a notification.

What is the Windfall Tax? It is a tax levied by governments against certain industries when economic conditions allow those industries to experience significantly above-average profits.

4. India’s exports fell 9.3% in August to $34.7 billion, with the trade deficit hitting a 10-month high of $29.7 billion as imports surged to $64.4 billion. Factors such as softening oil prices, reduced demand from China, and global recession contributed to the slowdown in exports.

1. Tamil actor Prashanth, known for his roles in 90s films and hits like Jeans with Aishwarya Rai, is getting married again at 51 if the rumours are to be true. This will be his second marriage. Prashanth was once a heartthrob, especially in Tamil and Telugu cinema, and he earned the title of “chocolate boy” during his peak.

Prashanth’s first marriage was in 2005 to Grahalakshmi, but the couple parted ways after four years. They got divorced in 2009.

2. American astronaut Sunita Williams, who is currently on a space mission, received a heartwarming gift on her 59th birthday.

1. The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) at Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), Delhi Cantt, in the presence of Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff.

2. Nigeria is set to become the first export customer of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) built Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). HAL has previously trained several Nigerian officials on Dhruv helicopters at its Rotary Wing Academy.
