women reservation bill cleared in key union cabinet meet

The Women Reservation Bill was passed on Monday, during the Union Cabinet Meeting held in Delhi.
Cutting across political lines, leaders have demanded the introduction of the women’s reservation bill, which guarantees a 33 per cent quota in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The Women’s Reservation Bill passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010 had provision for 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

4. The proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament will commence in the New Parliament Building from today onwards. On the Second day of the Special Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha will assemble in the new building at 1.15 PM while the Rajya Sabha will meet at 2.15 PM.

Members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are requested to assemble in the Central Hall of Parliament at 11 A.M. on 19.09.2023 for a function to commemorate the rich legacy of the Parliament of India and resolve to make Bharat a developed Nation by 2047.

6. Airports Authority of India has added two new B-360 types of aircraft equipped with an advanced state of Flight Inspection system into the AAI Flight Inspection Fleet.

7. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra unveiled an ebook, titled “People’s G20”, on India’s G20 Presidency in New Delhi. The book presents a complete journey of India’s G20 Presidency.

8. An all-party delegation from Tamilnadu led by Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan is in New Delhi to meet Union water resources minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to discuss the Cauvery water sharing issue.

9. GUJARAT: Health Minister Rushikesh Patel holds high-level meeting to review flood situation in the State in Gandhinagar.

Supreme Court on Monday directed the Maharashtra assembly speaker to spell out the timeline within a week for adjudication of the disqualification petitions filed against Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MLAs loyal to him who had tied up with the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a new government in June 2022.

11. Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to reserve one day a week for the Opposition in the new Parliament so that non-BJP MPs could say what they wanted.

12. The Women’s Reservation Bill, a subject of extensive debate, reportedly received approval during a Union Cabinet meeting presided over by PM Modi on September 18. The Bill seeks to allocate 33% or one-third of all seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies to women. *But no official information has been provided regarding the proceedings of the Cabinet meeting*

14. ANDHRA PRADESH CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the Srinivasa Sethu elevated expressway corridor in Tirupation Monday.

The expressway corridor is built with a cost of 650 crore which will ensure the smooth movement of devotees to the hill shrine. The project was jointly funded by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL)

15. The unique architectural marvels of Karnataka — the 12th century Hoysala era temples of Belur, Halebidu and Somanathapura in Hassan and Mysuru districts on Monday — were recognized as the UNESCO World Heritage Site: 42nd in India and fourth site in Karnataka to get the world heritage tag.

16. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced the launch of the Mukhya Mantri Shramik Kalyan Yojana (MMSKY) as part of the National Labour Day celebrations. The MMSKY scheme aims to enhance the welfare of the state’s labor force and offers various incentives and benefits for registered workers.

18. In Karnataka, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has banned the sale and slaughter of meat today as the city celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi. The BBMP’s animal advisory board has issued the guidelines to all meat shop owners.

1. The Supreme Court refused to entertain Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s plea challenging the summon issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against him. The Directorate had issued fourth summon to CM Soren in alleged military land scam case and asked him to appear on 23rd this month.

2. PayPal is challenging a Delhi High Court ruling that classified it as a “payment system operator” under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), subjecting it to “reporting entity obligations.” The court’s single judge bench had concluded that all elements of transactions on PayPal’s platform fall under the PMLA’s definition of a “payment system.”

3. “Yamraj” Waiting For You: If anyone commits a crime like harassing women in the state, ‘Yamraj’ will be waiting for him, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said.

His remark came after a teen was killed on Friday in an accident in UP’s Ambedkar Nagar district when two men on a motorcycle pulled her stole (dupatta) while she was riding home from school on a bicycle with her friend.

1. Finance Ministry approved various welfare measures for Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) agents and employees. This move will benefit over 13 lakh agents and more than one lakh regular employees.

2. Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will offer up to 8% subsidy for loans given to artisans under the PM Vishwakarma scheme launched by PM Modi.

3. Tata Motors announced on September 18 that it will increase the prices of its commercial vehicles, effective October 1, 2023, by up to 3%.

4. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBDT) on September 18 announced an extension in the deadline for filing Form 10B/10BB and ITR-7 till October 31, 2023. The earlier deadline was scheduled to lapse on September 30.

5. Private life insurance provider Bharti AXA Life Insurance announced on September 18 the launch of its new fund offering (NFO) — Emerging Equity Fund.

6. Indian energy giant Indian Oil has taken on the title sponsorship of the edition of MotoGP Bharat, the first-ever grand prix in India, which will be held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida from September 22 to 24.

7. Dhanlaxmi Bank Ltd.’s independent director Sridhar Kalyanasundaram has resigned from the board with effect Sept. 16., citing “factionalism” to “unethical” business conduct. Kalyanasundaram, appointed on 05 Dec 2022.

1. The INDIAN NAVY is gearing up for the second edition of its Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Seminar, known as ‘Swavlamban-2023,’ set to take place on October 4-5.

The first edition of Swavlamban witnessed the honourable Prime Minister launching the ‘SPRINT Challenges’ initiative. SPRINT, which stands for Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), is a collaborative initiative involving the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO), NIIO (Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation), and Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC).

2. The production of 40 Airbus C295 medium tactical transport aircraft in India will be a “game changer” as it would facilitate the creation of a world-class aerospace ecosystem in the country that would help in manufacturing other planes in the long-run.

(a) Recently Indian Air Force received the first C295 aircraft, two years after New Delhi sealed a Rs 21,935-crore deal with Airbus Defence and Space to procure the planes.

(b) The first ‘Make in India’ C295 is set to come out of a production facility in Vadodara in September 2026 and the final aircraft is expected to be delivered to the IAF by August 2031.

3. Security forces found two bodies from the Gadole forest area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on the sixth day of an anti-terror operation on Monday.
