1. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that heavy rainfall will continue over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Karnataka during next 3 to 4 days. Heavy rainfall is also likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday and Monday. Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are also likely to witness heavy rainfall on 23rd and 24th October.

The northeast monsoon has set in with a bang over South Peninsular India, there has been widespread, heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana , and heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of south Peninsular India for the next four to five days due to formation of consecutive low-pressure systems over Bay of Bengal.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Karmayogi Saptah-National Learning Week (NLW) in New Delhi. During the week, each Karmayogi will commit to achieving a target of at least 4 hours of competency-linked learning.

3. NDA announces seat sharing deal for upcoming Jharkhand Assembly Polls; BJP to contest on 68 seats.

4. Forty-three constituencies will go to the polls on the 13th of November, while the second phase of polling will take place on the 20th of November in thirty-eight constituencies. Counting of votes will be conducted on the 23rd of November.

5. Bye polls for 47 assembly Constituencies in different states and for Wayanad Parliamentary seat in Kerala will also be held on 13th of next month. The bye polls for one assembly seat in Uttarakhand and Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra will be conducted on 20th November.

6. In a major bureaucratic rejig , Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Thursday declared transfers and postings of over 30 IAS officers, filling up vacancies in important departments such as health, education, revenue and excise.

7. Haryana government will provide free dialysis service to patients suffering from kidney disease in the state. This was announced by Chief Minister Nayab Singh after chairing the first formal meeting of the newly constituted cabinet of Haryana.

8. In Uttrakhand, the UCC Rules and Implementation Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Shatrughan Singh has submitted its draft to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the Secretariat.

9. The Eighth edition of Asia’s largest telecom festival- India Mobile Congress, IMC was concluded yesterday in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event at Bharat Mandapam on the 15th of this month.

12. *Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024:* In the midst of seat-sharing discussions with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday (October 18) announced four candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. Among those named is Abu Azmi, a SP leader.

14. Hemant Soren cabinet in Jharkhand has increased the monthly honorarium for women under the Maiyaan Samman Yojana from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500.

15. The Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board (UMEB) has proposed making Sanskrit a compulsory subject in 416 madrassas across the state. This initiative aims to enhance the educational curriculum and support the academic growth of students.

1. The Supreme Court held that the Law on Prohibition of Child Marriages will prevail over any Personal laws. The Apex Court asserted that child marriages infringe upon the fundamental rights of minors, including their right to choose a life partner freely.

2. The Enforcement Directorate has attached 19 immovable properties worth over 35 crore rupees belonging to the Popular Front of India (PFI). The properties are registered in the names of various trusts, companies, and individuals. Earlier, the agency had also attached 16 immovable properties valued at over 21 crore rupees.

3. The state government is all set to bring in a stringent law — the Telangana Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act 2024 — modelled after a similar legislation in Gujarat to make land grabbing illegal and a criminal offence. It applies to both public and private lands. The state Cabinet meeting on October 23 is likely to discuss the new law.

4. A court in Delhi Friday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case.

5. The Supreme Court on Friday closed the proceedings in a habeas corpus petition filed by a man who had alleged that his two daughters were held captive on the premises of spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore.

6. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday (October 18, 2024) arrested Bihar IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Gulab Yadav in a money laundering case. Mr. Hans was arrested in Patna and Mr. Yadav was picked up from Delhi.

7. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday alleged that the word “Dravidian” was removed from the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, the state anthem, during a programme where Governor RN Ravi was the chief guest.

The Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, often played at the start of government programmes in the state, became the centre of controversy after it was performed at the Hindi Month valedictory function at the Doordarshan office in Chennai, where Ravi was present.

1. The Adani Foundation, which is the corporate social responsibility arm of the Adani Group, has donated Rs 100 crore to the Telangana government for the establishment of a university that will help young people develop industry-specific skills.

2. Ratan Tata, who passed away on October 9 at 86, named lawyer Darius Khambata, friend Mehli Mistry, and half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy as executors of his will. Mistry, a close confidante and trustee of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust, plays a significant role in managing the Tata Group’s charitable endeavors.

3. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri asserted that the market size of the Indian chemicals and petrochemicals sector is expected to grow to approximately 300 billion dollars by 2025. The current market size of the sector is 220 billion dollars.

4. The World Bank along with the Asian Development Bank has agreed, in principle, to fund $1600 million (Rs 13,600 crore) for the phase-1 development of Amaravati as a capital city in Andhrapradesh.

In an interesting update the ‘Mahishmati Kingdom’ franchise’s filmmaker KE Gnanavel Raja, confirmed that the third installment, ‘Baahubali 3’ will be made.According to a Desimartini report, KE Gnanavel Raja said that currently the film is being planned and the team discussed the ideas recently. As they released the film back to back within two years.

2. Actor Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar, who have had some successful outings together, including ‘Kesari’ and ‘Good Newwz’, are back with yet another film. This time, Akshay Kumar will play C Sankaran Nair, a popular politician, barrister and reformer from Kerala. The film is inspired from real life events and adapted from the book ‘The Case That Shook The Empire’ written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat.

1. Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) – INS Tir and ICGS Veera completed their long range training deployment to Manama, Bahrain, on 16 Oct 24. During the port call, Capt Anshul Kishore, Senior Officer, 1TS called on Maj Gen Salman Mubarak Al-Doseri, Royal Command Staff and National Defence College and Cmde Ahmed Ebrahim Buhamood, Commander Flotilla and held discussions on regional maritime security challenges and avenues for future collaboration in training and operations.

2. Senior IPS officer Praveen Vashista has been appointed as the new Special Secretary for Internal Security.

3. The Coast Guard conducts ‘Sagar Kavach’ exercise along Maharashtra and Goa coast The two-day ‘Sagar Kavach’ coastal security drill began on Wednesday.

4. In Jammu and Kashmir, the security forces apprehended a terror-linked individual in the Dundak area of Surankote Sector of Poonch district. The Police have confirmed the recovery of four grenades from the suspect, whose arrest could mark a major breakthrough in solving recent terror incidents in the frontier district.
