1. The southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly and is expected to hit the Kerala coast by May 27, ahead of its usual onset. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an early arrival in parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, Mumbai, and the Konkan belt.

2. Maharashtra, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed for synchronisation of ICAR and other stakeholders in agriculture for achieving the goal of One Nation One Agriculture and One Team.

3. Indian Space Research Organisation’s Earth Observation Satellite, EOS-09 aboard the PSLV-C61, which was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh this morning, could not complete its mission as it encountered some technical problem during the third stage. Soon after the launch, ISRO Chief Dr V Narayanan said.

4. Conservation project was completed for Rajon ki Baoli, a 16th-century stepwell in Mehrauli Archaeological Park, New Delhi. This project was led by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in partnership with the World Monuments Fund India (WMFI) and the TCS Foundation.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that the world has witnessed the military strength of a self-reliant India and the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative through Operation Sindoor. He was addressing the media following a Tiranga Yatra organized in the Khaparkheda Panchayat area of Nagpur district.

9. The Shillong-Silchar Highway project is set to transform connectivity in North-East India. This 166.8 km four-lane highway will connect Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya to Panchgram in Assam. It is the first high-speed corridor in the region and is expected to be completed by 2030.

10. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Sunday (May 18, 2025) appointed Akash Anand as the party’s chief national coordinator, during a special meeting held in New Delhi.

11. Telangana government is gearing up to launch a new scheme for the regularisation of the houses constructed in the government lands. Eyeing to generate at least Rs 7,000 crore through the new scheme.

12. India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Karnataka, Konkan and Goa and Kerala and adjoining Peninsular India from today till 24 May.

1. The Supreme Court of India has recently mandated states and Union Territories to establish special teams to investigate whether reserved forest land has been improperly allocated to private individuals or institutions. The court’s decision marks the need to reclaim such land for forest departments within one year.

2. Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said,
the Union government has been adamant in not releasing funds to the tune of ₹2,152 crore to Tamil Nadu for refusing to implement the three-language policy, and the State government will seek legal recourse in the Supreme Court.

3. Ashoka University’s head of the political science department, Ali Khan Mahmudabad, was arrested on Sunday after two first information reports (FIRs) were lodged on stringent charges, including endangering sovereignty and integrity, for his social media posts related to Operation Sindoor.

4. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday alleged that Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on an invitation from its spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence, and that he worked closely with the establishment of the neighbouring nation.

5. Allahabad high court upheld the appointment of professor Naima Khatoon as the vice-chancellor (VC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on Saturday. Khatoon, who earlier served as principal of women’s college in AMU, became the first woman to hold the VC’s post in the varsity’s over 100-year history.

1. In Telangana, 17 members of a family died in a fire accident at Gulzar House near the historic Charminar in Hyderabad. The casualties include 8 children all below 7 years of age and six women. Director General of Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services Y Nagi Reddy informed that the victims died due to suffocation.

2. Eight people, including the factory owner and members of a worker’s family, died in a fire that broke out in the wee hours today at a towel manufacturing unit in the MIDC industrial area on Akkalkot Road in Maharashtra’s Solapur district.

1. International Monetary Fund (IMF) has slapped 11 new conditions on Pakistan for the release of the next tranche of its bailout programme and warned that tensions with India could heighten risks to the scheme’s fiscal, external, and reform goals.

2. Foreign investors pumped in over 18,000 crore rupees into the Indian equities market so far in May on global positive cues and improving domestic conditions. According to the depositories data, the Foreign Portfolio investors, or FPIs, invested 18,620 crore rupees into the equities market but pulled out 6,748 crore rupees from the debt markets so far in May 2025.

1. The Defence Ministry said that Operation Sindoor marked a turning point in India’s defence doctrine-demonstrating tri-services synergy, strategic depth, and technological dominance.

2. In Jammu and Kashmir in a major operation to clear civilian areas, following a military confrontation between India and Pakistan the security forces, Army today destroyed 42 unexploded shells in different forward villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
