Kiren Rijiju Replaced As Law Minister, Shifted To Earth Sciences. Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State, will replace Kiren Rijiju as Minister with Independent Charge of the Law Ministry.

1. President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Prashant Kumar Mishra, the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court, as a judge of the Supreme Court.

2. PM Modi will inaugurate the newly-constructed Parliament building on May 28. The new Parliament building can comfortably seat 888 members in the Lok Sabha chamber and 300 in the Rajya Sabha chamber.

3. Ending days of suspense, the Congress central leadership earlier on Thursday announced that Siddaramaiah would be the chief minister, while state party chief D K Shivakumar would be his only deputy.

The governor invited Siddaramaiah to take oath as chief minister and Shivakumar as deputy chief minister along with their team members at 12.30 pm on May 20 at Kanteerava stadium.

4. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has extended the invitation to several chief ministers and party leaders and personally invited them to the event of CM oath Ceremony.

5. Minister of State SPS Baghel moved from law ministry to health ministry. Decision taken hours after Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was shifted as Earth Sciences Minister.

6. Rajasthan Bikaner MP and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal was on 18 May appointed as Law Minister with independent charge.

7. A head of the Lok Sabha elections slated for next year, the BJP leadership will be reaching out to the masses to mark the completion of nine years of the PM Modi-led government at the Centre. Along with several mass contact programmes and other events, the BJP’s outreach initiatives will also include public rallies to be addressed by Prime Minister Modi covering Rajasthan.

1. Former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede did not appear for questioning before the CBI on Thursday in connection with a case of alleged demand of Rs 25-crore bribe from superstar.

2. Supreme Court on Thursday expressed serious concern over the death of three cheetahs translocated from South Africa and Namibia to Kuno National Park of Madhya Pradesh in less than two months and asked the Centre to rise above politics and consider shifting them to Rajasthan.

3. Mystery shrouds death of Assam’s ‘Lady Singham’ Junmoni Rabha as video, audio clips go viral:
Two days after a woman sub-inspector of Assam police, who was embroiled in several controversies, was killed in a “road accident”, an audio clip of a purported constable went viral on social media claiming that she was tortured by her colleagues before death.

3. Twitter owner Elon Musk on Thursday said that verified Twitter Blue subscribers can now upload videos that are up to two hours long. As per Twitter, the video file size limit has also been increased from 2GB to 8GB. Earlier longer video upload was only possible from the web, however, now it will also be possible through the iOS app.

4. The ban on the game app Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is set to be lifted for three months after temporary clearance, It was banned after Indian authorities noticed that its server was interacting with Chinese servers.

5. YouTube has announced that it is bringing 30-second unskippable ads on connected TVs. Instead of seeing two 15-second ads consecutively, viewers will now see one 30-second ad. The feature is arriving along with new ‘Pause’ ads on connected TV devices, which will allow advertisers to showcase their brand when a video is paused.

1. Indian Navy aids in search & rescue after chinese vessel sinks with 39 onboard: Indian Navy said that in a swift humanitarian action on May 17, it deployed its Air MR assets in Southern Indian Ocean Region, in response to sinking of a Chinese Fishing Vessel Lu Peng Yuan Yu 028 with 39 crew members onboard. The crew includes nationals from China, Indonesia and Philippines. The Navy carried out multiple searches despite adverse weather.

2. India has extended a hand of friendship to the people of Myanmar affected by Cyclone Mocha. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said three Indian Navy ships carrying relief material reached Yangon under OPERATION KARUNA.

3. Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and US Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Dr Colin Kahl co-chaired the 17th meeting of India-US Defence Policy Group (DPG) in Washington DC on 17 May.

4. INDIA IN TALKS WITH THE US, FRANCE FOR FIGHTER JET ENGINES: Discussions are going on with the US for the General Electric (GE) engines for the TEJAS MK-2, while the French proposal is for a high-powered engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
