12. The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has announced the launch of Internet Governance Internship and Capacity building scheme. The Program will offer a bi-annual internship with two parallel tracks, a six month and a three month program.

1. In West Bengal, a Sealdah Court found guilty Sanjay Rai in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. The next hearing of this case is on 20th January. It is expected the court may pronounce the quantum of the sentence on that day.

2. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached 142 immovable properties worth 300 crore rupees in a MUDA-linked money laundering case allegedly involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others. The attachment is part of a money laundering probe into alleged irregularities in land allotment by Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).

3. The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, held discussions and consultations in Patna yesterday. The meeting was chaired by its Chairperson and senior MP Jagdambika Pal. Waqf Bill 2024 report to be tabled during upcoming Budget session.

The World Bank has projected 6.7 per cent growth for India, surpassing global growth of 2.7 per cent. 1. A suspect involved in the attack on actor Saif Ali Khan in Mumbai has been arrested at Durg Railway Station in Chhattisgarh. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha, the in-charge of the Durg Railway Police Force (RPF), confirmed that the arrest was made based on information provided by the Mumbai Police. The accused, identified as Akash Kannaujiya, was detained aboard the Gyaneshwari Express travelling from Mumbai to Kolkata.

2. David Lynch, the legendary Hollywood director and writer, passed away at 78. Renowned for his surreal style and exploration of the human psyche, Lynch transformed modern cinema with iconic works like Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive.

1. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has clarified that there is no contradiction between its stance and the remarks made by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi regarding the ongoing situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the urgent need for India to strengthen its offensive and defensive capabilities in light of the current global turmoil and complex geopolitical landscape. Speaking at an event commemorating the “Year of Naval Civilians,” he highlighted the necessity for comprehensive planning, resourcing, and budgeting to enhance India’s security posture amidst ongoing conflicts worldwide.

3. The Border Security Force (BSF) recently convened a Field Commanders’ Conference on January 17, 2025, at its Eastern Command headquarters in Kolkata. This meeting aimed to address the increasing challenges faced in securing the India-Bangladesh border.

4. The maiden Veterans’ Day Parade was organised by Eastern Naval Command on the occasion of the 9th Armed Forces Veterans Day at RK Beach, Visakhapatnam, yesterday. The parade was flagged off by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command (ENC).
