2. The Election Commission has announced bye-elections to one Parliamentary Constituency in Lakshadweep and six Assembly Constituencies spread over five States.

5. The National Gallery of Modern Art under Ministry of Culture will house the precious Maharaja Collection of Air India artworks. An MoU was signed for handing over the artworks in New Delhi on Wednesday.

7. Republic Day celebration will start from Jan 23 with the celebration of Parakram Divas: The Nation will celebrate its 74th Republic Day on 26th January. The celebrations include the traditional march past at Kartavya Path comprising a grand parade. The government had earlier started the celebration of Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary as Parakram Divas.

8. The Government has invited applications to design the logo of the 100th episode of PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme. The 100th episode will be broadcast in April this year. People can submit their application through the MyGov.in portal by first February.

9. Jharkhand govt have decided not to convert Jain site of Sammed Shikharji into tourism hub, says National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura.

10. Congress leader and former Punjab Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday joined BJP.

11. Kollam district of Kerala has become the country’s first constitution literate district. The announcement was made by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

12. The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) has released India’s first national assessment regulator, PARAKH, which will work on setting norms, standards, and guidelines for student assessment and evaluation for all recognized school boards in the country.

13. AD Damodaran, leading scientist and former director of the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), passed away in Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 87.

1..Fourteen people, including a nine-year-old boy, suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out after an LPG cylinder exploded during a birthday party in a village in Haryana’s Karnal.

2. Actress Jacqueline Fernandez told Delhi’s Patiala House Court in a statement that Conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar has “played with my emotions and made my life hell”. She has been named as accused by the ED in the money laundering case.

The probe agency asked the Bollywood actor about her alleged relationship with Sukesh and the gifts she received from him.

1. Paytm Payments Bank said it has received final approval from the Reserve Bank of India to operate as a Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit (BBPOU).

Under Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), a BBPOU is allowed to facilitate bill payment services of electricity, phone, DTH, water, gas insurance, loan repayments, FASTag recharge, education fees, credit card bill and municipal taxes.

2. Paytm Payments Bank has received the RBI’s nod to appoint Surinder Chawla as its Managing Director and CEO.

3. Noted writer K Venu was conferred with Federal Bank Literary Award 2022 for his autobiography ‘Oranweshananthinte Katha.’ Venu received the award from Balagopal Chandrasekhar, Chairman and Independent Director of Federal Bank, at a special event held as part of the Kerala Literature Festival.

4. Billionaire Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta Limited will buy Meenakshi Energy for ₹1,440 crore after emerging as the successful bidder. The debt-laden Meenakshi Energy is a 1,000-MW coal-based power plant at Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore.

5. The government has re-appointed Michael Patra as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for an additional period of one year with effect from January 15, 2023.

6. Anurag Kumar was appointed the Chairman and Managing Director of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).
