5. Monsoon Session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly began yesterday in Shimla. There will be a total of 12 sittings. 3. The Election Commission (EC) on Monday came out with the names of 65 lakh people who were removed from the draft electoral rolls in Bihar following the special intensive revision (SIR).
The Supreme Court, in an order on August 14, had directed the EC to publish an enumerated, booth-wise list of the voters not included in the draft electoral roll published on August 1.
4. National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab for a reported assault on a journalist by two police officers, which reportedly took place on the 1st Aug in the Gurdaspur district.
5. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday came down heavily on the sale of fake fertilisers, seeds and pesticides, describing them as a “curse for farmers”. He has also ordered a nationwide crackdown on erring individuals and firms to protect cultivators.

1. In Chhattisgarh, one security personnel was killed and three jawans injured in an IED blast triggered by Maoists in Bijapur district of Bastar division yesterday. The blast occurred in the National Park area when a team of the District Reserve Guard was on an anti-Naxal operation.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage caused by cloudburst and landslides in several parts of Kathua district.The Chief Minister announced ex-gratia assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The financial assistance includes ₹ 2 lakh for each deceased, ₹ 1 lakh for those severely injured, and ₹ 50 thousand for those with minor injuries.
3. In Andhrapradesh, Nellore: Two persons were killed and six others injured when a mini truck rammed into a stationary tipper lorry on the National Highway near Nayudupalem in Kodavalur mandal in the early hours of Monday.
