A five-day long special session of Parliament is set to commence on Monday (September 18). The session will be held amid an intense speculation on whether the government will have some surprise item up its sleeve during the sitting that will see a discussion on Parliament’s 75-year journey and House proceedings moving to the new building.

1. CBI arrests 7 persons including Executive Secretary of CMD of PSU Bridge and Roof Company India Ltd. in Rs 20 lakh bribery case.

2. An Indian Army soldier, Sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom, was killed after being kidnapped from his home in a village in Manipur. Sepoy Kom was on leave when three armed men stormed his house and abducted him at gunpoint on Saturday.

3. In Sikkim, The Forest Department on September 16 took action to demolish four illegally constructed houses in the Dzuluk hamlet, located near the Indo-China border. These constructions had encroached upon forest department land.

4. A special court in Mumbai on Saturday rejected the bail plea of former policeman Sachin Waze, an accused in the case of an explosives-laden sports utility vehicle found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s house and the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

This is the second time that the special NIA court has rejected the former policeman’s regular bail application in the case.

5. Two out of three molesters, who were involved in pulling the dupatta of a 17-year-old girl causing her death as she fell from her bicycle in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar, were shot at by the police on Sunday afternoon.

A 17-year-old girl student died after two molesters pulled her dupatta, causing her to fall, and another motorcyclist ran over her in Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar district. She was returning home from school on Friday.

Shahwaz and Arbaaz were riding a motorcycle and allegedly pulled her dupatta with the intention to outrage her modesty. When the girl tried to pull her dupatta back, she fell on the ground. Another youth identified as Faisal happened to pass by and ran his motorcycle over her, crushing her head.

6. Asaram Bapu has moved the Rajasthan high court for parole after his plea for relief was rejected a second time, his counsel said on Saturday. Asaram, a self-styled godman, has been serving a life sentence following his conviction on April 25, 2018, for sexually assaulting a teenage student of his ashram.

1. Three women were buried alive after falling into a crater that developed due to land subsidence in a colliery area of coal company Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Sunday.

1. The US dollar surged to a six-month high, reaching 105.43, as stubborn inflation in the United States fuelled expectations of continued monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve.

1. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh addresses Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana programme at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow on Vishwakarma Jayanti.

The drones, developed by a team of engineers from IIT-Roorkee, have an endurance of up to 30 minutes and can reach speeds of 80 kmph.
