1. India to roll out 6G technology by end of this decade, says PM Modi at Silver Jubilee celebration event of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

2. The prestigious Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express of Western Railway has completed 50 glorious years since its first journey on May 17, 1972.

3. Home Minister Amit Shah reviews preparations for Amarnath Yatra at high level meeting in New Delhi.

The Minister said, this is the first journey after the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that number of mobile towers should be increased on the Yatra route for better communication and dissemination of information. Mr Shah instructed deployment of equipment to open the route immediately in case of landslides.

4. The Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday recommended the appointment of the Chief Justices of Telangana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gauhati High Courts.

The collegium also recommended the transfer of the existing Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

7. *HIMACHAL PRADESH* govt on Tuesday decided to hand over the state police constable recruitment exam’s question paper leak case to CBI.

8. *DELHI* : The North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday suspended three officials in the Narela Zone for alleged laxity in duty following the massive fire in a building in Mundka that claimed 27 lives.

9. *J&K* : Terrorists hurled a grenade at a newly opened wine shop in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, killing one worker and injuring three others.

10. Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday, in a high-level meeting, reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following several targeted killings, including that of Kashmiri Pandits, in the Union Territory. The meeting, attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Home Secretary AK Bhalla.

11. *KARNATAKA* : The eleventh edition of the ExCon takes place on 5 days from Tue., 17.05.2022 to Sat., 21.05.2022 in Bangalore.

12. Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said that “anti-conversion” law will not target any community in the state and promised a strict implementation of the law. He said, “It is in the Constitution that there can’t be forced conversions. We have just brought provision for punishment in case it happens.

13. *MADHY PRADESH* : Mandi traders in Madhya Pradesh have gone on a two-day strike against the sudden ban on export of wheat. Traders association added that over 3,000 trucks full of wheat from Madhya Pradesh are lined up at Mumbai port.

Aviation regulator DGCA has suspended the licences of two pilots of Alliance Air for one year after an aircraft with 55 passengers on board overshot the runway by 10 metres in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur in March. The plane had skidded off the runway when it suffered a tyre burst while landing. All passengers and crew members were safe.

15. *TAMIL NADU* : CBI raids premises of Congress Lok Sabha member Mr Karti P Chidambaram, son of former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P.Chidambaram, on charges of aiding group of foreign nationals in getting visas illegally.

16. *UTTAR PRADESH* : AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday hoped the Supreme Court will do “complete justice” in the Gyanvapi Mosque case. This comes after SC directed the Varanasi DM to safeguard the “Shivling” reportedly found inside the mosque complex without affecting the right of Muslims to enter and worship. Furthermore, the SC has set the next date of hearing on May 19

17. *WEST BENGAL* : The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed CBI to interrogate West Bengal Minister of State for School Education PC Adhikary over alleged appointment of his daughter as a teacher in a state government-aided school.

This comes after a candidate’s petition claimed she was deprived of the job despite having secured higher marks than the minister’s daughter in the recruitment examination

1. BSE Limited on Tuesday announced that its board has appointed Public Interest Director SS Mundra as the Chairman of the stock exchange. Mundra retired as Deputy Governor of RBI in July 2017.

4. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sold a net $20.1 billion in the spot foreign exchange market in March to defend rupee against dollar, its monthly bulletin showed. RBI said its net outstanding forward dollar purchases rose to $65.79 billion in March compared to $49.11 billion in February.

1. The Kolkata Police on Tuesday arrested late Bengali TV actress Pallavi Dey’s live-in partner Sagnik Chakraborty in connection with her death. Dey was found dead at her rented flat in Kolkata’s Garfa area on Sunday.

2. A 26-year-old trans model-actress Sherin Celin Mathew was found dead in her apartment in Kerala’s Kochi on Tuesday. A police officer said that a case of unnatural death has been registered

3. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur led the largest ever Indian official delegation of celebrities walking together on the Red Carpet at Cannes Film Festival’s inaugural event. In a historic moment for Indian folk arts, Mame Khan became the first ever folk artist to open a Red Carpet for Indian contingent at Cannes.

DEFENCE:

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launches indigenous Navy destroyer warship INS Surat, frigate INS Udaygiri; Says Govt aims for Make-for-World and not just Make-In-India.

2. Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu asked the Defence Forces to be always on the alert to thwart any challenges that may be faced by the country. He interacted with the tri-Services officers who are undergoing training in the Defence Services Staff College at Wellington near Ooty in Tamil Nadu on 17 May.

3. On Tuesday, a US media outlet reported India had halted negotiations with Russia to purchase 10 Ka-31 airborne early-warning helicopters. Defence News reported India had “indefinitely” suspended negotiations with Russian state-owned arms conglomerate Rosoboronexport.

The 10 helicopters had been earmarked to serve on the new aircraft carrier Vikrant, which is undergoing sea trials, and other ships.

4. The navies of India and France concluded their second joint patrolling in the South-Western Indian Ocean last week, while an Australian P-8 maritime patrol aircraft is expected in India next month on a reciprocal visit, underscoring India’s continued focus on expanding maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

5. Colonel Dharamvir, the hero of the Battle of Longewala in the 1971 war with Pakistan, passed away on Monday in Gurugram.

He had commanded 23 Punjab between 1992 and 94. His role in the movie Border based in the Battle of Longewala was portrayed by actor Akshaye Khanna
