Panchayat elections should not create bitterness and discord, says President Droupadi Murmu. She called for increased participation of women in panchayats, while giving away the National Panchayat Awards. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that despite the rapid urbanization over the past few decades, the majority of the population still lives in villages. Even those who live in cities are somehow connected to villages. The development of villages can lead to the overall progress of the country.

1. President Droupadi Murmu will visit Himachal Pradesh from April 18 to 21, and will stay at Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra. A President House release said that on April 18, the President will inaugurate a Tulip Garden at Mashobra.

1. In Manipur, a gunfight took place between security forces and suspected militants of Kuki Independence Army (KIA) in Henglep Sub Division of the Churachandpur district of Manipur on 16 Apr. Police recovered three Single Barrels and one US Carbine from the militants.

2. Night curfew in Rikhnikhal block of Uttarakhand’s Pauri district as tiger kills 2 in 3 days. Curfew in the 25 villages will be in force from 7 pm to 6 am. All schools and anganwadi centres in the area have also been ordered to remain shut till further orders.

3. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday ordered the dismissal of Punjab Police Service (PPS) officer Raj Jit Singh, acting on reports highlighting an alleged nexus between police officers and drug traffickers in the state.

4. Three mining department officials were hurt including a woman officer who was dragged by a large group of men allegedly involved in illegal sand mining in Bihar’s Bihta. A video shows the mob hurling abuses and throwing stones. Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said the incident took place when the team seized overloaded trucks. Police said 44 people have been arrested.

9. Casting director named Aarti Mittal has been arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket in the film industry and supplying models to customers, Mumbai Police said. Police sent dummy customers to a hotel and rescued two models, who have been sent to a rehab centre. During investigation, the models told police that Mittal promised to pay them ₹15,000 each.

10. Three coaches of a diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) train parked in the yard of Botad railway station in Gujarat were destroyed after a fire broke out on Monday afternoon, none hurt.

1. Paytm, UPI has fixed a limit of up to Rs 1 lakh for the users. Along with this, Paytm has also transferred the limit per hour. Paytm has told that now you can do only Rs 20,000 transactions every hour. Apart from this, 5 transactions can be done per hour and only 20 transactions can be done in a day.

Google Pay or GPay & phonepe has set a total limit of 10 transactions across all UPI apps and bank accounts. Users will be able to do only 10 transactions in a day. With this, you will be able to do transactions up to one lakh rupees per day.
