1. A Massive fire breaks out at Secunderabad’s Swapnalok Complex: Atleast six people, including women, were killed in a major fire that broke out in a multi-storey commercial complex in Secunderabad on Thursday evening. The fire started at around 7.30 pm in the complex that houses several offices.

DEFENCE
1. A Cheetah helicopter of the Army crashed near Mandala in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning. the helicopter was on an operational sortie from Missamari in Assam’s Sonitpur district to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.
The helicopter lost contact with Air Traffic Control (ATC) around 9.15 am. Five search parties of the Indian Army, SSB and ITBP were immediately launched. The wreckage of the aircraft was found near Banglajaap east village of Mandala.
2. Zoji La (pass), which connects Kashmir to Ladakh, was on Thursday opened by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) 68 days after it was closed in January following heavy snowfall.
3. In the meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved proposals to procure Rs 70,000 crore worth of different weapon systems for the Indian defence forces. The deal includes the purchase of 60 UH Marine choppers from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), worth Rs 32,000 crore.
4. Twenty-two years after India created its first tri-service command, the defence ministry Wednesday tabled a bill in Parliament that will enable all existing tri-service and future theatre commanders to exercise disciplinary powers over personnel under them.
At present, personnel of the Air Force, Army, and Navy are governed by the provisions of the individual acts governing each service — the Air Force Act, 1950, the Army Act, 1950 and the Navy Act, 1957. Under these acts, officers can exercise disciplinary powers only over personnel from their own service.
It would allow a commander-in-chief or officer-in-command of an inter-services organisation to exercise disciplinary powers over personnel of any service who are serving under or are attached to “his” command.
