1. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to appear before a court on Saturday in connection with a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate against him over non-compliance with its summons in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise policy.

2. A sessions court in Chennai on Friday extended former Tamil Nadu minister V Senthil Balaji’s remand till February 20. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in June 2023 in a money laundering case.

3. West Bengal government on Friday removed Jyotirpriya Mallick, behind bars for his alleged involvement in a multi-crore ration distribution scam, as the forest minister and allocated the department to Birbaha Hansda.

4. The unrest in the Sandeshkhali region in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal continues as protesters, with a notable presence of women, continued to demand the arrest of Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. The allegations against Sheikh and his cohorts include land grabbing and sexual harassment.

5. A delegation of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which visited Sandeshkhali to probe alleged harassment of women by TMC supporters, submitted its report to President Droupadi Murmu. In its report, the panel recommended the imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal to safeguard the rights of the Scheduled Castes.

6. Commuters in Punjab faced inconvenience on Friday as many buses stayed off the roads in response to the Samyukta Kisan Morcha’s call for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ to press the government to accept farmers’ demands including a legal guarantee of MSP.

7. Manipur government on Friday suspended internet services in Churachandpur district for five days after violence broke out there over an action taken against a policeman. The situation in the district remained tense, after the offices of the superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner were vandalised, vehicles used by CAPF were torched by a mob and the national flag at the SP office complex was pulled down.

8. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has raked up the Adarsh housing scam to target former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan and said if the BJP sends him to the Rajya Sabha, it will amount to disrespecting martyred soldiers. On Monday, Chavan resigned from the Congress.

1. The RBI on Friday gave 15 days more, till March 15, 2024, to Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) to stop deposits, credit transactions or top-ups in any customer accounts, wallets, and FASTags, keeping in view the interest of customers, including merchants.

2. Fintech firm One97 Communications — owner of the brand Paytm — has shifted its nodal account to Axis Bank from Paytm Payments Bank.

The move will allow continuity of Paytm QR, Soundbox, card machine after the March 15 set by the Reserve Bank of India, as per a regulatory filing.

1. The Defence ministry on Friday gave the preliminary approval for crucial capital acquisitions projects worth Rs 84,560 crore, which range from long-range cruise missiles, anti-tank loiter munitions, sonars, radars and torpedoes to 30 specialised aircraft for spying.

2. In a boost to the collaboration, the defence ministry Friday cleared the procurement of 15 additional Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft, nine of which will go to the Indian Navy and six to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

C-295 aircraft being built in India under collaboration between Airbus & TATA. Contenders for refuellers are Airbus with its A330 multi-role tanker transport & Boeing with its KC-46 Pegasus.

As part of his four-day official visit to the United States, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Pande visited Headquarters of 1 Corps of the US Army, where he received briefings on the Stryker Unit, Multi-Domain Task Force, and the Special Forces Group, aiming to explore opportunities for more significant training engagements.

4. Various Indian martial arts are now part of the routine training of regiments of the Army. Post the Galwan violent clash between India and China, the Army has added martial arts to the regular training of troops in addition to the usual physical exercise, officials said. For instance, the Punjab regiment has incorporated Ghtaka in the training regime, the Gorkha Regiment the Khukri dance and the Kalari Payattu by the Madras regiment.
