Rs 1 lakh loan with 5% interest – Special scheme for traditional workers cleared
The Centre’s Vishwakarma Yojana scheme will focus on providing financial support to traditional artisans and craftspeople.

PM Modi announces ‘Vishwakarma scheme’ for traditional workers with outlay of Rs 15k cr. The initiative, which will be launched on the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja on September 17, aims to support the livelihoods of traditional artisans and craftsmen. The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet, is set to receive an initial allocation of Rs 13,000 crore.

6. In MANIPUR, due to the incessant rain, a number of landslides and mudslides have been reported along National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road).

7. In HIMACHAL PRADESH, heavy rains have battered normal life since Sunday, triggering landslides in Shimla’s Summer Hill, Krishna Nagar, and Fagli. A Government official said .rescue operations are going on in the rain-affected areas.

8. Rain-deficit KARNATAKA releases 9,136 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu from KRS dam.

Karnataka DyCM D K Shivakumar said that the government was committed to release 10 tmc ft of water to the neighbouring state Tamil Nadu.

9. The KARNATAKA government announced plans to set up “Koosina mane” across 4,000-gram panchayats for children of working mothers. “Koosina mane” translates to child homes or creches and is aimed at providing healthcare, nutrition, and safety for children whose mothers are employed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), as well as for other mothers living in the vicinity.

10. Contractual employees in Andhra Pradesh were given a 37 per cent wage increase and an insurance cover by the state government on Wednesday.

11. ANDHRA PRADESH CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will unveil the 125-foot-tall statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which is being built at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Park at Swarajya Maidan in the city at a cost of ₹400 crore, on the Constitution Day on November 26.

12. An earthquake of magnitude 1.5 occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, adjoining Delhi, on Wednesday night, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake occurred at 8.57 pm.

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole on Wednesday said the party’s top brass will discuss with Nationalist Congress Party founder Sharad Pawar his controversial meeting with politically estranged nephew and state deputy CM Ajit Pawar when the Opposition alliance against BJP — INDIA — holds its conclave in Mumbai later this month.

1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has constituted a team comprising 53 officials to probe multiple cases related to the incidents of violence in Manipur.

2. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday issued a statement to clarify that Raj Kumar alias Bittu Bajrangi, who was arrested by Haryana Police in connection with the Nuh violence, “never had any relation” with its youth wing Bajrang Dal, or other VHP-linked organisations.

3. Goa police arrested three persons ( Nigesl Joaquim Fonceca, Alex Fernandes and Lawrence Mendes) for allegedly desecrating a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj near Mapusa town. The statue of the iconic 17th century warrior king at Karaswada village in North Goa district was found desecrated.

4. Fresh tension within Jadavpur University premises after students clash with a group of Trinamul Chhatra Parishad supporters in front of Arabinda Bhavan, the university’s main administrative building, over protests held by rival political forces on the student’s death last week.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met the Governor of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Hayashi Nobumitsu in New Delhi. They exchanged views on JBIC’s recent activities in India contributing towards Japan’s investment target of five trillion yen over the next five years.

2. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved seven projects of the Ministry of Railways with an estimated cost of around Ra. 32,500 crore, with cent percent funding from Central Government.

The projects will cover 35 Districts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. These will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by 2339 kilometers and provide employment of 7.06 crore man-days to the people of the States.

3. The Centre has approved the expansion of the Digital India programme with an outlay of 14 thousand 903 crore rupees.

4. Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Rs 13,000 crore PM Vishwakarma scheme that will benefit about 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftsmen. The loans will be provided at a concessional interest rate of 5%.

On Tuesday, PM Modi announced that the scheme will be launched on Vishwakarma Jayanti on September 17.

5. Raj Chetty, an Indian-American economist, and Michael Springer, a biologist, have been awarded Harvard University’s George Ledlie Prize for their groundbreaking work in their respective fields.

1. Indian Army launched ‘Battle of Minds’ – Indian Army Quiz 2023 along with its logo, at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment.

2. India & China agree to resolve remaining issues along LAC in eastern Ladakh. The 19th round of the India- China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on the 13th and 14th of August.

3. Indian naval ships INS Visakhapatnam and INS Deepak port call in Bahrain, further strengthening the ties between the two nations. The port call, which coincided with India’s 77th Independence Day, marked a significant moment for bilateral engagement.

4. American aerospace major Boeing on Wednesday said it is starting production of the Apache choppers to be delivered to the Indian Army.

The company will deliver a total of six AH-64E Apaches to the Indian Army. The AH-64 Apache is one of the world’s most advanced multi-role combat helicopters and is flown by the US Army

5. FOUR STATES CAN BE DEFENCE AEROSPACE HUBS: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana make a compelling case for becoming the hubs for India’s military aerospace ecosystem.

The four states “collectively contribute to nearly 70% of the work centres of the LCA (light combat aircraft) Tejas aircraft ecosystem, but generally to India’s military aerospace industry as well. Along with numerous start-ups and companies forming the supply chain, these states have given rise to a robust ecosystem for military aerospace”, the report stated.

6. The government has cleared a Rs 20,000 crore deal to manufacture fleet support vessels (FSVs) which are urgently required by the Indian Navy.

Vizag-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) will manufacture five of the 45,000-tonne warships, the largest ship of its class being built at the defence ministry-owned yard. The Indian FSV project was initially given a go-ahead in 2016.

7. Maya OS is set to replace Windows as the operating system on the Defence Ministry’s computers, according to a report. Instead of Microsoft’s widely used proprietary operating system (OS), the Ministry of Defence will use a Linux-based OS based on the popular Ubuntu distribution.

8. The Indian Army is in the process of finalising the technical parameters of Future Ready Combat Vehicle (FRCV), which will gradually replace T-72 tanks. The plan is to have the first prototype in four years and inductions starting 2030.

9. India’s first long range revolver ‘PRABAL’, manufactured by state-owned company Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh will be launched on August 18.
