1. RAM NAVAMI 2024 : The birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu is celebrated as Ram Navami. falls on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. The story of Sri Rama is depicted in Valmiki’s Ramayana, one of the most important epics of Hinduism and goes back to 8th or 7th century B.C. 10. ISRO has achieved a breakthrough in rocket engine technology with the development of a lightweight Carbon-Carbon (C-C) nozzle for rocket engines. This innovation accomplished by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) promises to enhance the vital parameters of rocket engines, including thrust levels, specific impulse, and thrust-to-weight ratios, thereby boosting the payload capacity of launch vehicles.
11. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the results of the Civil Services Examination (CSE) for the year 2023 on 16 April 2024. A total of 1,016 candidates were recommended for various prestigious government services.
12. In West Bengal, the Election Commission (EC) on Monday transferred DIG (Murshidabad Range) Mukesh to a non-election-related post with immediate effect. EC in a notification has asked the West Bengal government to suggest the names of three officers as probable replacements.
13. Supreme Court on Tuesday directed West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose, who is also the chancellor of state-run universities, to appoint six suitable persons as vice-chancellors from a list of candidates provided by the state government.

1. In Chhattisgarh, 29 Maoists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Kanker district of Bastar division. Three jawans of Border Security Force-BSF, including an inspector, have been injured in this gun battle.
About fifteen arms, including AK-Forty Seven, SLR, Carbine and INSAS rifle, have been recovered from the spot.
2. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. He had filed the petition seeking his release from custody in relation to the alleged Delhi excise scam case. The apex court will hear the case again on 29th of this month and has refused to consider the plea for an interim release without waiting for ED’s reply.
3. Delhi Rouse Avenue Court extended the judicial custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till 23rd of this month.
4. The Election Commission yesterday barred Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala from campaigning for 48 hours over his remarks against BJP leader Hema Malini. Mr Surjewala has been banned from holding any public meetings, rallies, road shows and interviews as well as public appearances in media for 48 hours.
5. The Supreme Court on Tuesday deprecated criticism of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and calls for reverting to ballot papers, saying the electoral process in India is a “humongous task” and attempts should not be made to “bring down the system”.

In Odisha, at least five persons, including a woman, died and more than 35 others were injured after a bus fell from a bridge in Jajpur district. The incident took place around 9 pm (15 Apr) on Barabati bridge on National Highway-16, when the bus with about 47 passengers was en route to West Bengal from Puri.

1. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has signed record number of 125 advance pricing agreements (APAs) in the financial year 2023-24. In a release, The Department of Revenue said that it also represents a 31 percent increase compared to the 95 APAs signed during the preceding financial year.

3. India’s overall exports are estimated to reach 776.68 billion dollars in financial year 2023-24, surpassing last year’s highest record. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a release that that the overall exports in the preceding financial year, 2022-23, was 776.40 Billion dollars. The Ministry added that overall imports in the financial year 2023-24 are estimated to be 854.80 Billion dollars.
4. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has allowed Indian residents to hedge their gold price risk on recognised exchanges in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC). Governor Shaktikanta Das announced the decision during the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting where the repo rate was increased by 35 basis points to 6.25 per cent.
Hedging is a strategy used to minimize the risk of potential losses due to fluctuations in the market price of gold. Gold producers, traders, and investors may employ various hedging techniques to protect themselves against adverse price movements and ensure a more stable cash flow.
5. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced that its stake in FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) has surpassed 5%. The Corporation augmented its shareholding in HUL from 4.99% to 5.01% of the company’s paid-up capital by acquiring additional shares from the open market. This increase amounted to a purchase of 3,05,000 equity shares, bringing LIC’s total shares in HUL to 11,77,18,555.

1. The Kerala High Court dismissed a petition seeking the postponement of the telecast of the film Kerala Story on Doordarshan, till the general elections are over. The Election Commission expressed its inability to intervene in the matter. The Court also recorded the fact that the film was already telecast by Doordarshan.
2. Noted Carnatic Musician K G Jayan passed away at Tripunithura in Kochi. He was 90. Known for his devotional songs, Jayan composed more than 1000 songs and has been the music director for a few Malayalam and Tamil films.

1. Indian Naval stealth warship INS Talwar intercepted a suspicious dhow on Monday and apprehended 940 Kg narcotics from it.The operation, executed with precision by the ship’s specialist boarding teams and MARCOs (Marine Commandos), resulted in the confiscation of a staggering 940 kilograms of contraband narcotics.
2. An Indian Coast Guard ship on Tuesday rescued a fishing boat, which had encountered engine failure nearly 215 nautical miles from Karwar in Karnataka, officials said. ICG Ship Savitribai Phule had swiftly responded to a distress call from Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) ‘Rosary’ on April 13, and, soon, established communication with the boat amid adverse sea conditions.
3. The Indian Navy’s preparedness has been greatly enhanced by the induction of indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stealth corvettes “INS Kavaratti” and “INS Kiltan” under Project 28 (Kamorta class).The INS Kavaratti and the earlier inducted INS Kiltan are built with composite superstructures delivered by SAAB.

PHILIPPINES LIKELY TO BECOME THE FIRST EXPORT CUSTOMER FOR HAL’S LIGHT COMBAT HELICOPTER ‘PRACHAND’ : After delivering Dornier-228 aircraft to Guyana, the Indian Aerospace maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is confident it will soon have the breakthrough deal in the fighter jet and helicopter segments. The talks with the Philippines are in advanced stages, and Nigeria is gaining momentum.
The HAL Prachand is an Indian multi-role light attack helicopter designed and manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under Project LCH. It has been ordered by the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army. Its flight ceiling is the highest among all attack helicopters.

Indian Army has been monitoring the Israel-Hamas conflict so that its soldiers are trained to tackle similar situations on the border if terrorist attacks are launched from Pakistan or any other country, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Shimla base Army Training Command said.
