Happy Easter

1. President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted people of the nation, especially from Christian community, living in India and abroad on the eve of Easter.

EASTER Sunday marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after being crucified. Easter is “an annual Christian festival in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox, as calculated according to tables based in Western churches on the Gregorian calendar and in Orthodox churches on the Julian calendar.

2. India’s Covid vaccination coverage has crossed 186 crore 49 lakh mark.

3. PM Modi has informed that insights from all Pariksha Pe Charcha’s interactions can be found in a innovatively curated section of NaMo mobile application.

4. PM Modi on Saturday met senior Sadhus Ishwarcharan Swami and Brahmavihari Swami from Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, BAPS and appreciated the BAPS relief work in the time of COVID-19 and during the Ukraine crisis.

5. Civil Aviation Ministry flagship Regional Connectivity Scheme – ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’, UDAN has been selected for Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 under the category Innovation (General).

6. The NITI Aayog is planning to launch a National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP) in May to provide government data in a user-friendly format, to promote data-driven decision making and research.

7. *ASSAM* : Six suspected terrorists having links with an Al-Qaeda network in Bangladesh were reportedly arrested in Barpeta, Assam

8. *BIHAR* : By-poll results: RJD candidate Amar Paswan defeated his nearest rival Baby Kumari of BJP by a margin of over 36,000 votes in Bochahan assembly by-poll in Bihar. By poll for this constituency was necessitated by the demise of Vikashsheel Insaan Party (VIP) Musafir Paswan.

9. *CHHATTISGARH* : Congress leader Yashoda Nilamber Verma on Saturday won the Khairagarh Assembly by-polls in Chhattisgarh by a margin of over 20,000 votes. Her nearest rival, BJP’s Komal Janghel, got 67,703 votes.

10. *DELHI* : Violence broke out during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Saturday, leaving several police personnel injured. There was stone-pelting and some vehicles were also torched, police said.

11. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has said that the situation is under control in Jahangirpuri area of Delhi after the two groups went into scuffle during procession. In a tweet, Mr. Asthana said that adequate additional force has been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas.

12. *GUJARAT* : PM Modi unveiled a 108-feet statue of Lord Hanuman in Morbi, Gujarat via video conferencing on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

13. PM Modi will be on a three-day visit to Gujarat from Monday. On Monday, Mr Modi will visit the Command and Control Centre for Schools in Gandhinagar.

14. *KERALA* : Former RSS Sareerik Sikshak Pramukh Sreenivasan was hacked to death by a five-member gang at his shop at Melamuri.

15. *MAHARASHTRA* , Congress has retained the Kolhapur North Assembly seat. In the Bye-Election, Maha Vikas Aghadi and Congress candidate Jayashree Jadhav has defeated BJP candidate Satyajit Kadam by 18,901 votes. She secured 96,226 votes while Kadam got 77,442 votes. The poll was necessitated due to the death of Congress MLA Chandrakant Jadhav after which his wife Jayashree contested the election.

16. Maharashtra govt has issued instructions against removing loudspeakers from mosques. Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said, “Loudspeakers are allowed within the permitted decibel limit and if anyone violates that then legal action will be taken. He added, “There is no question of removing loudspeakers from mosques or temples that have taken permission.”

17. *RAJASTHAN* : Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has said that every child has the right to education and protection and police can play an active role in this. He was speaking on the occasion of Rajasthan police foundation day in Jaipur on Saturday.

18. *TAMIL NADU* : Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fishing, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr L Murugan has said, the Centre would establish a seaweed park with special economic zone status in Tamil Nadu.

19. The Chithirai festival was held yesterday at the Shiva Temple in Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu with full public attendance after a gap of 2 years.

The annual Chithrai festival is celebrated in a grand manner at the 400 year old Sreesankara Rameswarar Temple, also known as the Shiva Temple in the heart of the city.

20. *WEST BENGAL* ; BY-POLL RESULTS: TMC wins Asansol Lok Sabha, Ballygunge Assembly seats; In Ballygunge Assembly constituency Trinamool candidate Babul Supriyo won by defeating his nearest CPIM Candidate by a margin of more than 19,000 votes. In the Asansol Lok Sabha seat, Trinamool Candidate Shatrughan Sinha is leading by a margin of nearly 2.3 lakh votes.

1. Automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced that it will sell its stake of over 34.75 lakh shares in Mahindra Sanyo Special Steel Pvt Ltd (MSSSPL) to Japan-based Sanyo Special Steel. M&M declared in a regulatory filing that post the ₹212 crore deal, its holding in MSSSPL will be nil. Turnover of MSSSPL was ₹834.43 crore as of FY21.

2. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance recorded a Q1 net profit of ₹185 crore, driven by steady growth in new business. Its value for new business for FY2022 at ₹2,163 crore is up 33.4% from FY2021.

1. Noted producer-actor Manju Singh, best known for shows such as Swaraj, Ek Kahani and Show Time, has died after suffering a stroke. She was 73.

2. Actor Sanjay Dutt in an interview has stated that they are making every effort for ‘Munna Bhai 3’, adding that filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani also wants to make the film

DEFENCE:

1. Vagsheer, the last of the six submarines of Project 75, is ready for launch on 20th of April. The Scorpene class submarine is a diesel-electric attack submarine built by Mumbai’s Mazgaon Dock ship builders with French collaboration.

2. The first two submarines – INS Kalvari and INS Khanderi – were commissioned on September 21, 2017 and September 19, 2019. Despite enormous challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21, INS Karanj and INS Vela were commissioned in one calendar year in 2021 in the month of February and November respectively.

3. Impressed with the performance of the armed version of the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), the Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to buy more such copters for high-altitude operations in the Himalayas and the desert sector on the western front.

4. The copter, which is called the ALH Mark-IV version and is known by its military name ‘Rudra’, was used in Eastern Ladakh during the stand-off with China.

5. *IAF won’t buy 48 Russian Mi-17V5 helicopters to boost ‘Make in India’* : To boost the ‘Make in India’ programme, the Indian Air Force has shelved its plan to buy 48 additional Mi-17V5 medium-lift helicopters from Russia. India signed a deal with Russia for the acquisition of 80 Mi-17V5 helicopters that were inducted into the force in phases. An additional 48 were planned to be inducted but it will not be done anymore.
