ISRO plans to launch ‘space tourism’ by 2030 at ₹6 crore per passenger
“Work is in progress around India’s very own space tourism module, which is both safe and reusable,” said S Somnath, Isro chairman. Come 2030, and Indians who can afford it will be able to don space suits, sit in a module atop a rocket and take a trip to space — for ₹6 crore

11. Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said his government will take measures to stop Maharashtra government from offering its health insurance scheme in 865 border villages. This comes after state Congress chief DK Shivakumar demanded Bommai’s resignation over Maharashtra government releasing additional ₹54 crore for scheme.

12. Karnataka High Court has permitted the state government to conduct board exams for students in Classes 5 and 8. The court has directed the government to inform failing students confidentially and provide remedial classes without detaining them.

13. Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Wednesday felicitated mahout Bomman and his wife Bellie, who featured in the Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. Stalin awarded each of them cheques of ₹1 lakh, along with a citation for their dedication to animal welfare. He also ordered the payment of ₹1 lakh each to 91 caretakers at elephant camps in the state.

14. Puducherry government to announce a holiday for all schools up to Class 8 from March 16 to March 26 in view of spread of H3N2 influenza virus in Union Territory.

2. National Investigation Agency has conducted searches at multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab in connection with a terror conspiracy hatched by Pakistan based commanders of proscribed terrorist organisations to radicalise youth and target security personnel.

1. India and the World Bank have signed a loan agreement for the construction of the Green National Highway Corridors Project in four States. These States are Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The agreement has been signed for the construction of 781 kilometers in these States, with loan assistance of 500 million dollars.

2. Signature Bank was being investigated by US regulators in regard to its dealings with crypto clients before it was shut down on Sunday.

3. India’s overall exports projected to grow at over 16% during April to February 2022-23 over same period last year.

4. Atomic Energy and Space Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that the budget of over 9,000 crore rupees is allocated towards achieving the objectives of Gaganyaan mission.

Commercial Bank, a digital Bank in Qatar, announced the launch of UPI remittance service to India, becoming the first bank in Qatar to offer this service. Customers can use Commercial Banking digital platforms to initiate UPI payments using UPI-ID.

1. Veteran actor Sameer Khakhar best known for his roles in TV shows such as Nukkad and Circus, passed away today at a hospital in Mumbai due to multiple organ failure

2. Oscar-winning film producer Guneet Monga, along with Netflix, has backed a docu-series on the life of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. The film has not yet been titled. Talking about the film, Guneet said this was a story she wanted to explore.

3. Shakira broke 14 Guinness World Records with her song ‘Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53’ wherein she mocked her ex-boyfriend Gerard Piqué and his girlfriend.

The records include ‘Most viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours’, ‘Fastest Latin track to reach 100 million views on YouTube’ and ‘Most No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart by a female artist.

Rana Daggubati, who underwent a corneal transplant for partial vision as a kid, said, “I can’t see from my right eye, so I operate in a different view.” Speaking about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, Rana said, “Many people…get broken because of a physical problem…I had a corneal transplant…a kidney transplant so it’s like I’m almost the Terminator.

DEFENCE

The Indian Navy on Wednesday announced instituting two awards in the memory of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat. On the occasion of his 65th birth anniversary on 16 March 2023, the Indian Navy fondly remembers Late General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defence Staff of the Indian Armed Forces.

(a) The first trophy would be Gen Bipin Rawat rolling trophy for the ‘Women Agniveer Trainee standing first in overall order of merit’.

(b) The second award would be Gen Bipin Rawat rolling trophy for the ‘Most Spirited Officer’ undergoing the Naval higher command course at Naval War College (NWC) in Goa.
