1. The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Meghalaya till 19th of this month, and in Assam between the 17th and 19th.

2. Several parts of north and central India continue to batter in stifling heat with no relief likely till the 19th of June.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange and red alerts for the next five days as the maximum temperatures hovered in the range of 44-46 degrees Celsius in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

7. In view of the heatwave in Uttar Pradesh, holidays have been extended till June 24 in schools for classes 1 to 8 run under the Basic Education department.

8. The trial run of Vande Bharat Sleeper Class train will start in the next two months. Currently, the Railways is running Vande Bharat Express, which has only chair cars. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

The government is targeting to provide around 50 lakh jobs in electronic manufacturing sector in the next 5 years. the volume of India’s Electronic Manufacturing sector is likely to be doubled in the next 5 years, which is presently of around 130 billion dollar and that the Centre is focussing on making the country self-reliant in the sector as well as making India as an electronic manufacturing hub.

10. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer around 20,000 crore rupees in Nine crore three lakh farmers’ account on 18th June in Varanasi under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme.

11. Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda along with Minister of State Anupriya Patel presided over a review meeting of the Department of Pharmaceuticals in New Delhi on Saturday.

13. The Telangana Government issued orders reshuffling IAS officers, particularly District Collectors, on Saturday. According to the orders issued by Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari, 20 officers were transferred and given new postings.

14. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked colleges and universities to allow students a full refund of fees within a specified period to “enable them to opt for a course of their choice.” A circular in this regard was issued by Manish R. Joshi, secretary of the commission, on June 12.

15. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday, June 14, 2024, announced that the Tamil Pudhalvan scheme would be launched in August this year. The programme aims to provide financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month to boys who have studied in classes 6 to 12 in State-run schools, for pursuing their higher education.

16. Many private schools in Hyderabad, Telangana have declared an extended break for Bakrid, granting students four days off, from June 15 to 18. This decision contrasts sharply with the state government’s directive, which mandates a single holiday on June 17 for Bakrid. While private schools will resume classes on June 19.

Srinivas Hegde, who was the mission director of India’s first moon mission Chandrayaan-1, passed away on Friday in Bengaluru. He was 71 years old.

1. In the backdrop of the ongoing water crisis in the National Capital Delhi, the BJP and the Congress held seperate ‘Matki Phod’ protests against the Delhi government. Protesting outside the residence of Delhi Water Minister Atishi.

2. Delhi high court on Saturday ordered removal of a video recording of court proceedings related to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case from social media platforms.

3. Hundreds of Bhopal residents have joined hands to save over 27,000 trees that they fear would be chopped to make space for VVIP bungalows in the city, even mulling to launch a protest akin to the ‘Chipko Andolan’.

4. The Delhi high court has ordered removal of social media posts by Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera and Ragini Nayak alleging that veteran journalist Rajat Sharma used ‘abusive language’ during his show on the Lok Sabha election result day.

5. A court in Bengaluru on Saturday extended the police custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa along with his friend Pavithra Gowda and eleven others, who are accused in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, by five more days. They were produced before the court as their six-day police custody will end on Sunday.

6. The Government will organise a conference titled India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of Criminal Justice System in Kolkata. The Law and Justice Ministry said, the Conference aims at bringing out the salient features of the three new criminal laws –
(a) The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023,

(b) The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita

(c) The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 through interactions and question and answer sessions.

7. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanungo on Friday urged the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government to ensure that Hindu students in the state are not sent to madrasas and that they receive education at regular schools.

In Uttarakhand, at least 14 people were killed yesterday in an accident on the Badrinath National Highway near Raintoli in Rudraprayag district, where a tourist vehicle (Tempo Traveller) plunged into a gorge. Seven critically injured pilgrims were airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh, while the other injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. According to reports, the vehicle was carrying 26 people when the incident occurred.

1. The 18th edition of the Mumbai International Film Festival was inaugurated in Mumbai in a grand opening ceremony yesterday evening (Saturday, 15 Jun, 2024 – Fri, 21 Jun, 2024).

(a) Interestingly, parallel screenings will also be held in Delhi, Kolkata, Pune and Chennai, broadening the festival’s reach to audiences across the country.

(b) Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan, and film celebrities Randeep Hooda, Madhur Bhandarkar, Sonali Kulkarni and Divya Dutta were present at the inauguration.

(c) As part of the opening ceremony, the FTII student short Film “Sunflowers were the first ones to know” was screened. The film won the La Cinef Award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival this year.

(d) A total of 314 films from 59 countries across 61 languages will be screened in the MIFF programming this year.

(e) The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is honoring the illustrious wildlife filmmaker Shri Subbiah Nallamuthu by conferring upon him the much coveted V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award.

2. Director-producer Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri on Saturday claimed that the “villain” character shown in his movie The Kashmir Files was based on real people, and the “Left ecosystem” was angry with him because he showed the “real face of the villains of Kashmir.”

His reaction comes a day after Raj Niwas officials said Delhi lieutenant governor VK Saxena has accorded sanction to prosecute author Arundhati Roy and Sheikh Showkat Hussain, a former professor in Kashmir, under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly making provocative speeches at an event in New Delhi in 2010.

1. The Combined Graduation Parade (CGP) of the 213 Officers’ Course at the Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigal, Hyderabad held on 15 June 2024 (Saturday), with traditional military splendour, to mark the successful completion of pre-commissioning training of flight cadets of the Flying and Ground Duty branches of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), is the Reviewing Officer (RO) of the parade.

2. The Indian armed forces plan to use the VAJRA for anti-aircraft warfare, significantly boosting India’s defensive capabilities against airborne threats. The VAJRA, or Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS), is designed to effectively neutralise enemy aircraft, drones, and helicopters.

3. In Chhattisgarh, 08 Maoists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Bastar division. In the exchange of fire, one security personnel has also been killed while two other jawans have been injured.

4. According to information published by Chinese media on June 12, 2024, a 6,200-ton new vessel, featuring an 18-unit underwater vertical launch system, has been revealed as a model of the Type 093B nuclear submarine.
