Election Commission extends ban on physical rallies till Jan 22

1. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crosses 156 Crore mark.

2. The Union Government has said that more than 157 crore 87 lakh COVID vaccine doses have been provided to States and Union Territories so far.

CM Yogi Adityanath will be the party’s candidate from Gorakhpur city assembly seat and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya will be the BJP candidate from Sirathu in Prayagraj district. Former Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya will fight from Agra Rural assembly seat

13. WEST BENGAL State Election Commission (WBSEC) has decided to defer civic body polls to February 12, 2022 due to Covid rise.

14. The 9-day long 20th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) was inaugurated at the National Museum premises in Dhaka on 15 Jan. The film festival is showcasing 225 films spread in ten categories. Films from 70 countries are being shown at various venues during the festival.

15. Actor Aamir Khan is set to collaborate again with his ex-wife Kiran Rao after her directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’ in 2010. A comedy-drama, helmed by Aamir Khan Productions, is being directed by Rao. The shooting reportedly started in Pune on January 8. The project is being seen as a comeback for Rao after 12 years.

16. Army Chief General M M Naravane has said that the incidents of violence have come down significantly due to the continuous efforts of the security forces. Speaking at a function on Army Day in New Delhi, General Naravane said, a total of 194 terrorists were killed in counter operations in the last one year. He said, in line of control, the situation is better than last year but Pakistan is still harbouring terrorists near the border.

17. The world’s largest national flag, the Indian Tricolor made from Khadi, was displayed along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Longewala, on the occasion of 74th Army Day. Flag is 225 feet long, 150 feet wide & weighs around 1400 kilogram, Ashoka Chakra in center has a diameter of 30 feet

18. New Army Combat Pattern Uniform developed with the help of NIFT after going through options of 15 patterns, 8 designs, 4 fabrics. Camouflage uniform is based on digital disruptive pattern and available in 13 sizes.

19. The Haryana government has approved the payment of financial assistance of ₹50 lakh to the family of Brigadier LS Lidder, CM Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday. Brigadier Lidder had lost his life along with CDS General Bipin Rawat in the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu last month. One dependent from Lidder’s family will also be given a government job.
