1. ONAM is celebrated today on the day of Thiruvonam nakshatram (Shravana asterism) in the Malayalam calendar month of Chingam. Onam is the rice harvest festival of Kerala.
2. The India Meteorological Department has forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and moderate to high flash flood risk over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 24 hours. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Chhattisgarh, Bihar and east Madhya Pradesh for the next two days.

5. The Central Government has decided to reduce the export duty on onions from 40 percent to 20 percent. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.
6. PM Modi will transfer the first installment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin to the beneficiaries in Jharkhand at a function in Jamshedpur.
7. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has signed Memorandums of Agreement with Industry and Academic Partners to Advance First-in-Human Phase-one Clinical Trials. The agreement marks a pivotal step towards establishing India’s self-sufficiency in clinical development and advancing indigenous pharmaceutical agents.

(d) PM will lay the foundation stone and dedicate to the nation various development projects worth more than three thousand 800 crore rupees in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
9. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued show-cause notices to 27 schools in Rajasthan and Delhi for violating its by-laws.
10. The Telangana government has announced a transgender-specific government recruitment and social welfare program, under which transgender persons will be trained and recruited for traffic management. The State government has claimed that this is the country’s first-ever transgender-specific government recruitment programme.
11. In Telangana an ordinance to provide legal status to HYDRAA, extend crop loan waiver to those who have borrowed more than Rs.2 lakh and guidelines to implement Rythu Bharosa as well as BC enumeration for local bodies elections are expected to be on the agenda of the Cabinet, which will meet on September 20 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
12. Hindi Diwas is celebrated annually on September 14th to honor the adoption of Hindi as one of the official languages of India. The day marks the significance of the Hindi language and promotes its use and recognition across the country.

1. Doordarshan, India’s esteemed public service broadcaster, marks its 65th anniversary on 15 September 2024. Established on this date in 1959, Doordarshan has been a pillar of Indian media, fostering unity, culture, and education.
2. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has instituted a new section as part of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2024 for young filmmakers called the “Best Debut Indian Film Section 2024.”
The 55th IFFI is slated to be held in Goa from November the 20th to 28th. Through this section, IFFI will also focus on Indian debut films, showcasing a diverse range of narratives and cinematic styles from across the country.

Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently in jail due to his alleged involvement in the Renuka Swamy murder case, has stirred controversy after being captured on camera showing his middle finger to the media. 1. Security forces gun down three terrorists in J-K’s Baramulla. The operation was launched by the army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
2. The Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed India’s first ‘mountain tank’, Zorawar, which successfully completed its first phase of trials on Friday.
The air-transportable, 25-tonne combat platform, developed for high-altitude deployment, has been designed to meet India’s needs on the frontier with China.

AN ARMY RECRUITMENT RACKET BUSTED, A MAJOR ARRESTED FOR RUNNING ARMY TRAINING CAMP : A Military intelligence and Maharashtra police arrested a man impersonating an army major for running a fake recruitment racket across several states. The accused, Satyajit Barath Kamble, duped hundreds of candidates by promising them jobs in the Armed Forces. He operated fake training camps in Dehradun and Aurangabad, making approximately Rs 3-4 crore.
4. The Centre on Friday announced the renaming of Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, to ‘Sri Vijaya Puram’ to ‘free the nation from colonial imprints’.
Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has long carried the name of Captain Archibald Blair, a British naval officer of the East India Company after whom the gateway to the island was named after.
Nalin Prabhat, Director General (Operations & Security), and Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu, recently visited the Tiger Division for a high-level meeting with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and senior officers.
A statement said that the meeting focused on reviewing and enhancing security strategies ahead of upcoming events in Jammu.
