Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was the 11th President of India and a great scientist. He played a key role in India’s Pokhran nuclear tests in 1998.

2. Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Coal and Mines in New Delhi.

3. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated and flagged off new door-to-door freight and parcel services from New Delhi.

4. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, inaugurated the Live Cases Dashboard of Legal Information Management and Briefing System (LIMBS) in New Delhi.

5. National School of Drama (NSD) and Bharat Bhawan in Bhopal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the revival of Rangmandal Repertory, which had remained inactive for over two decades.

6. Ministry of Jal Shakti announced a mass communication internship programme for students pursuing Graduation or Post Graduation Degrees, or are Research Scholars enrolled in a recognised Institution in the field of Mass Communication.

7. Union Minister of Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya called on Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Parliament House. During the meeting, the Vice-President was briefed on the key initiatives and policy reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Labour and Employment as well as the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

8. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that the National Highways Authority has plans to use all municipal waste produced in the Country for road construction by 2027.

9. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman inaugurated dhaRti BioNest Incubation Centre at IIT Dharwad. The incubation centre will support start-ups and other entrepreneurs in the areas of biotechnology, deep tech and healthcare.

10. The State of Telangana has approached the Supreme Court against a State High Court decision to stay two government orders which enhanced the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota in seats in municipalities and panchayats to 42%.

11. The Maharashtra Metropolitan Region Development Authority has announced a major infrastructure project worth Rs 6,000 crore to connect the Samruddhi Expressway directly to Mumbai. This project involves building a 29 km elevated corridor between Aamne and Saket in Thane district.

12. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall till 17 Oct at isolated places over Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

In view of the upcoming Assembly Elections in Bihar and Bye-Elections in other States, the Election Commission has asked the political parties and candidates not to release political advertisements on any internet-based websites, including social media websites. It has asked not to release advertisements without pre-certification from the Media Certification.

2. Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan, who resigned from the civil service protesting the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 stripping Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, joined the Congress party on Monday.

3. The Supreme Court today issued notice on a plea seeking Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into allegations of criminal activities and possession of disproportionate assets/benami properties by BJP MP Dhullu Mahto.

4. In a bid to improve the cleanliness along major transportation routes, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a incentive-driven special drive encouraging commuters to report unhygenic toilets at toll plazas. In return, NHAI has promised to award ₹1,000 to users who spot dirty facilities, which will be credited directly to their FASTag accounts. The scheme is valid up until 31 October 2025, across all of India’s national highways.

1. India has witnessed a remarkable increase in the female workforce participation rate. The Labour and Employment Ministry said the female labour force participation rate has increased from 23 per cent in 2017-18 to around 42 per cent in 2023-24.

2. India’s wholesale price index (WPI) based inflation eases to 0.13 percent in September on a year on year basis, down from 0.52 per cent in August according to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

1. Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai has said around 12-13 Pakistani military aircrafts were downed by Indian Air Force during the Operation Sindoor and over 100 terrorists were neutralised by the armed forces during this Operation.

2. Home Minister Amit Shah Lays Foundation Stone Of Special Operations Training Centre Of NSG In Haryana; Addressing the 41st Raising Day of the National Security Guards in Manesar, Haryana, Mr Shah said, the NSG has been at the forefront in combating organised crime and terrorism in the country. He said that, National Security Guards will establish a hub at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

The Minister said six NSG hubs have already been established in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and the Jammu Task Force.

3. Indo-Russian Joint Exercise INDRA 2025 Begins in Rajasthan: The armies of India and Russia have started the INDRA 2025 joint exercise in Rajasthan.

4. India might scrap the plan to build three additional French origin Scorpene submarines at Mazagon Dock Ship Builders valued at 36,000 crore rupees as the government moves ahead with constructing six new German origin stealth submarines under Project 75I.

5. The DRDO is developing an advanced de-icing system for the AEWACS antenna under the Netra Mark II program.

6. The Indian Air Force will upgrade its IL-76 and C-17 Globemaster fleet with next generation radar warning receivers that will enable quicker and more precise detection of modern stealth radar systems.

7. DRDO’s ERA MK-2 gets Bulk Production Clearance for T-90 Tank Upgrades: After successful user trials on the T-90, the DRDO’s Explosive Reactive Armor Mark II has received bulk production clearance from the Indian Army with production beginning in collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems and Kalyani Strategic Systems, with upgrades costing under 50 lakh rupees per tank and expected to start equipping priority squadrons by mid-2026.

8. Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has indicated that the 250 km range Mach 5.5 capable Sky Sting hypersonic beyond visual range air-to-air missile can be fully integrated on the Tejas Mark 1A fighter jet within 18 months, with Rafael also proposing Make in India production with over 70% local content, bridging the gap until India’s 300 km range Astra Mark III missile is ready by 2030.
