1. Indian Railways will establish around 500 multi-modal cargo terminals under the PM GATI-SHAKTI programme in a time period of 4-5 years.
“PM GATI-SHAKTI multi-modal cargo terminals of railways will be terminals where different modes of transportation will be integrated seamlessly with the railway transportation network. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
2. Union Minister of Coal Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Mr Prahlad Joshi assured that no power plants in the country will be hindered due to shortage of coal supply.
3. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will release the datesheets for both class 10 and class 12 on Monday – October 18. This year board will conduct MCQ (Objective-type mode) only exams that too for major subjects only. Exam duration has also been slashed to 90 minutes. CBSE has released list of subjects it considers major subjects and exams for only these subjects will be held.
4. The govt scrapped basic customs duty on crude varieties of palm, sunflower and soyabean oils as well as cut duties on refined edible oils to ease retail prices of cooking oils and provide relief to consumers during the festive season.
5. Andhra Pradesh: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy instructed officials to expedite land survey process under YSR Jagananna Saswatha Bhu Hakku-Bhu Raksha programme besides launching land mutation process in village secretariats.

7. J&K : A top terrorist commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), identified as Sham Sofi, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
8. Odisha : Five people were arrested by Keonjhar Police on Thursday in connection with the bomb attack at Odisha BJP MLA Mohan Majhi’s vehicle on Sunday last week.

10. TAMILNADU: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today permitted all places of worship to open on all days of the week. He also announced that playschools, kindergarten schools, and anganwadis in the state would be allowed to open from November 1.
11. TELANGANA: The state government has decided to crack the whip on 43 revenue staff that includes tahsildars, revenue inspectors and VROs for corruption and irregularities in the selection of beneficiaries for various welfare schemes.
12. UTTARKHAND : The sacred portals of Kedarnath and Yamunotri temples in Uttarakhand will be closed for winter this year on November 6 while those of Gangotri will be shut on November 5.
13. BOLLYWOOD : The special NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) court on 15 Oct rejected the bail plea of actor Armaan Kohli and two others in a drugs case.
Mr Kohli was arrested in August this year following the seizure of drugs from his residence in Mumbai.
14. A special NDPS court would pronounce its orders on bail applications filed by Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, and two others on October 20 in a case of alleged seizure of drugs from a cruise ship off Mumbai.
15. PM Modi will announce seven new defence companies as part of the central government’s effort to modernise the defence sector on Friday, especially to mark the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the govt has decided to convert Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) from a department into seven fully government-owned corporate entities as a measure to improve self-reliance in the country’s defence preparedness.
16. The seven new defence companies that have been incorporated are Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI), Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India), Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), Yantra India Limited (YIL), India Optel Limited (IOL) and Gliders India Limited (GIL)
17. BSF can now search and arrest deeper inside Assam, Bengal and Punjab
: The Home Ministry has extended the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force in West Bengal, Punjab and Assam giving them powers of arrest, search and seizure deeper inside these states.
18. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually conducted the final breakthrough blast of the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal. Sela Tunnel will be the longest bi-lane road tunnel in the world at an altitude above 13,000 feet upon completion. It’s being constructed using the latest New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) and is considerably below the snow line, which makes it accessible during all weather. It is being constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
19. The Sela Pass is located between the Tawang and West Kameng districts of Aruna Hall Pradesh and is considered crucial from a strategic perspective. This tunnel is expected to cut down the distance to the China border through Tawang by 10 km, The construction of the tunnel started on April 01, 2019 and It’s expected to be over by June-August 2022.
20. An Assistant Professor Manish Kumar of IIT-Gandhinagar has been honoured with Commendation card by Lt Gen Jai Singh Nain, GOC-in-C (SC) for providing guidelines and leadership in developing 3D printed defence structure for the Army.
