1. The third Thane Creek Bridge (TCB-3), has reached completion and is now awaiting final approval for its inauguration..The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the agency responsible for the ₹850 crore project, has confirmed that the bridge is technically ready for public use.

2. Godavari river, India’s second-longest and lifeline for all major southern States, is facing increasing pollution levels. The impact is more in Telangana. A recent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and CSIR-NEERI has identified several critically affected regions where industrial effluents and sewage discharge threaten both aquatic ecosystems and human health.

3. Cyclone Shakti Update: Experts have warned that there is a strong chance that cyclone Shakti may form in the Bay of Bengal between May 23 and May 28.

4. Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), in partnership with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, has initiated the development of navigation infrastructure on three National Waterways—Chenab (NW-26), Jhelum (NW-49), and Ravi (NW-84)—to boost river transport and tourism. A new office has also been inaugurated in Srinagar to coordinate these activities.

5. Amid rising concerns over bird flu, all zoological parks in the Uttar Pradesh has been temporarily closed for one week. This decision has been taken after the death of tigress Shakti due to avian influenza in Gorakhpur Zoo.

1. The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹3,706 crore joint venture (JV) between HCL and Foxconn to establish a semiconductor assembly and packaging plant in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh.

2. On May 12, 2025, the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution approved an additional 2.8 million tonnes of FCI rice for ethanol production. The approval comes as part of India’s strategy to boost ethanol output for its Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, amid concerns regarding the diversion of essential food grains during times of inflation and nutritional stress.

1. India’s most decorated athlete Neeraj Chopra was conferred with the Honorary Rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. As per The Gazette of India, a public journal and an authorised legal document of the Government of India, dated May 9 stated the appointment came into effect from April 16, 2025.

2. India has successfully tested its indigenous counter-drone system called “Bhargavastra,” marking a significant advancement in the nation’s defensive capabilities against the growing threat of drone swarms. This indigenous system, developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL).

3. Indian security forces neutralised three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists during a fierce gunfight in the Zinpather Keller area of Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 13, 2025.The operation, codenamed “Operation Keller,” was launched following specific intelligence inputs received from the Rashtriya Rifles.

4. Turkey’s drone technology, which gained worldwide recognition during the Ukraine-Russia conflict, recently faced a significant setback when deployed by Pakistan against India. During the limited conflict known as Operation Sindoor (May 7-10, 2025), Pakistani forces failed to achieve tactical advantages with Turkish drones due to India’s sophisticated defence systems.
