epfo gives last chance to opt for higher eps pension

1. Atal Innovation Mission – NITI Aayog on Tuesday launched ATL Sarthi, a comprehensive self-monitoring framework to strengthen the ecosystem of Atal Tinkering Labs.

2. Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has announced the extension of the last date to opt for a higher pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS 95) to May 3, 2023.

3. National Horticulture Board (NHB) has introduced simplified process for filing and approval of applications under its Subsidy Schemes. The new system will cut down sanction time from 6 to 8 months to less than 100 days, which will greatly help the farming community.

4. PM Modi has greeted Sikh community around the world on the commencement of Nanakshahi Sammat 555.

5. Union Minister for Road and Transport, Nitin Gadkari will be unveiled first methanol-powered buses in Bengaluru.

6. In Nagpur, Maharashtra, a new project known as “beggar-free city” has been launched. Amitesh Kumar, the Nagpur City commissioner of police, announced that notification 144 CrPC has been issued.

7. Thousands of farmers are continuing their foot march, which will be covering around 170 kilometre, from Maharashtra’s Nashik to Mumbai over multiple issues, including onion prices. This is the third such march organised by farmers in the state since 2018 and is being organised this time over electricity bill waiver and woes of tribal people, among other issues.

8. Shree Krishna Pranami International Dharma Jagani Festival, 2023 concluded in Bhaktapur on Tuesday. The seven-day religious and spiritual festival is organised at the Shree Krishna Pranami Temple at Katunje.

9. Responding to a question about the organisation’s view on same-sex marriage, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Tuesday said that marriages can only happen between people of opposite genders. He added, “Marriage is neither for sexual enjoyment nor it is a contract.” He further said that two individuals get married for the benefit of society.

1. ED arrests jailed TMC leader’s CA in cattle smuggling case: Jailed TMC leader Anubrata Mondal’s Chartered Accountant Manish Kothari was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday evening in the West Bengal cattle smuggling case.

2. Ex-Railways Minister Lalu Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi are likely to appear before a Delhi court in connection with a case related to the alleged land-for-job scam on Wednesday.

3. Bombay High Court dismissed a PIL seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged disproportionate assets held by former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and his family. Calling it an abuse of the process of law, the court dismissed the petition and asked the petitioner to pay ₹25,000. The judges said that the petition lacked evidence.

4. Gurugram police on Tuesday arrested YouTuber Joravar Singh Kalsi and his three associates after his video went viral on social media platforms in which he, along with a friend, enacted a scene of Shahid Kapoor’s web series ‘Farzi’. An FIR has been registered against Kalsi

1. State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector lender, will hike the benchmark prime lending rate (BPLR) by 70 basis points with effect from March 15.

6. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled Rs 1,18,500 crore budget for Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory for the next financial year.

The total budget estimates for the fiscal is Rs. 1,18,500 crore, of which developmental expenditure is of the order of Rs. 41,491 crore. The capital component of the budget has increased substantially.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

1. Vicky Kaushal took to Instagram on Tuesday and shared that the shooting of his film ‘Sam Bahadur’ has been completed. The film is based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.

2. Recalling an interaction with PM Narendra Modi before Oscars 2023, ‘RRR’ writer Vijayendra Prasad said, “I expected it to last for 2-3 minutes but it extended up to 40 minutes.” Prasad added that PM Modi stated the world should look up to India. “I was blown by his vision,” said Prasad. ‘RRR’ song ‘Naatu Naatu’ scripted history at Oscars 2023.

3. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana has announced that the party will ban media personnel of V6 News channel and Velugu newspaper from attending its press conferences. It also asked its leaders to not participate in the channel’s debates.

4. Amazon on Tuesday said it plans to launch its first internet satellites in the first half of 2024 and offer initial services shortly after. It also revealed designs for terminals that will connect customers with the service.

DEFENCE

1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of Very Short Range Air Defence System missile. The test flight was conducted at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.

2. The Indian Navy is reportedly preparing to approach the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) to seek approval for the construction of three diesel attack submarines with Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology. The submarines are expected to be built in collaboration with the French Naval Group at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

3. India’s defence exports have increased to Rs 13,399 crore, while reliance on weapons imports have come down to 36.7 per cent from the earlier 46%.

4. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday said that India has emerged as a first responder in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief at global level.
