1. The nation will celebrate the 79th Independence Day today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations from the iconic Red Fort in Delhi. The Prime Minister will hoist the National Flag and address the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument.

2. On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, 🇮🇳 President Smt. Droupadi Murmu extended greetings to citizens and paid homage to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices won India its independence in 1947. She reflected on the journey from colonial rule to a thriving democracy, underscoring the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.

3. The President Droupadi Murmu says, the country well on track to becoming developed nation by 2047; Credits all-round economic growth to social programmes.

4. The Union government recently approved investment of over Rs 8,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh. This decision focuses on the construction of the 700 MW Tato-II Hydro-Electric Project in the Shi Yomi district.

5. The Union Health Ministry launched the State Health Regulatory Excellence Index (SHRESTH) in 2025. This new initiative benchmarks state drug regulatory systems to ensure the safety and quality of medicines across India.

6. National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) has announced that Senior Advocate Harish Salve has accepted its invitation to become a Distinguished Professor at the University.

7. The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Industrial Estate Management Policy in 2025. This policy aims to promote industrial growth by simplifying land allocation, improving facilities, and ensuring better estate management.

8. Maharashtra has pioneered a landmark initiative called ‘Disha Abhiyan’ to provide uniform and quality education for students with intellectual disabilities. This programme has been implemented in 453 special schools across the state.

9. Har Ghar Tiranga is a national campaign that encourages every Indian to hoist the national flag at home, school, office, or public places to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025. The campaign runs from August 2 to 15 and is part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. It is organized by the Ministry of Culture and supported by state governments and local communities.

10. On 14 August 2025, over 83 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh got the second installment of the Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana 2025-26. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav transferred the funds directly to their accounts.

11. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has greeted the nation on the eve of Independence Day exuding pride that India stands as the world’s largest democracy and one of its leading economies today.

12. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that his Ministry will implement focused skilling initiatives, especially for minorities, with the objective of strengthening livelihoods, promoting self-reliance, and enabling nationalintegration across the country.

15. The Bihar government has doubled the pension given under the JP Senani Scheme to political prisoners who were jailed during the Emergency. The state cabinet approved this decision.

16. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Telangana, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Jammu-Kashmir.

1. The Special CBI Court in Mohali on Wednesday sentenced an intelligence bureau (IB) inspector to one year of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of impersonating a CBI officer and extorting money from undertrials or threatening to implicate innocent people in false cases.

2. The Madras High Court has ordered the commencement of trial in a ₹100 crore defamation suit filed by former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni against Zee Media Corporation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, News Nation Network, and retired IPS officer G Sampath Kumar. The case relates to allegations linking Dhoni to the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and match-fixing scandal.

3. Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory in the national capital regarding the Independence Day Ceremony at Red Fort today for the convenience of public and security reasons. Several roads will be closed for general traffic from 4.00 AM to 10.00 AM with only labeled vehicles permitted.

4. Punjab Police, acting on specific intelligence inputs, have successfully foiled a major terror plot by apprehending two Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operatives in Ferozepur. Two hand grenades and one pistol with live cartridges have been recovered from their possession.

5. Security forces have killed a CPI Maoist commander from Chhattisgarh named Nilesh Makdam, alias Varun, in West Singhbhum district during an encounter as part of a joint operation.

1. In Jammu and Kashmir, a massive cloudburst struck a remote village in Kishtwar district yesterday afternoon in which multiple casualties have been reported. Over 75 people have been injured and many are still missing. The disaster hit Chasoti, the last motorable village on the way to the Machail Mata Temple, when a large number of people had gathered for the Machail Mata Yatra.

2. Continued rain in the hills of Himachal and incidents of cloud bursts in some parts of the state have started causing trouble in parts of Punjab also due to an increase in the water level of the Beas river.

In Kapurthala, 22 villages in the Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi have been inundated as the swollen Beas River breached a temporary bandh.

1. ICICI Bank, India’s second-largest private lender, has revised its minimum average balance (MAB) requirement for new savings account holders after facing widespread criticism. The bank had recently raised the MAB from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 for new customers in urban areas, but public backlash forced a rollback. As of now, the new MAB for urban customers has been reduced to ₹15,000.

2. India crosses 100 GW solar PV module manufacturing capacity under ALMM, a major leap from 2.3 GW in 2014, reinforcing its Atmanirbhar Bharat and clean energy goals.

1. Coolie Vs War 2 Review,

August 14 turned into a festival for movie lovers as two cinematic giants finally clashed on the big screen. Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, roared into theatres with massy action, whistle-worthy dialogues, and even a surprise cameo from Aamir Khan that sent fans into a frenzy.

On the other side, War 2 exploded onto screens with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR sharing electrifying chemistry in Ayan Mukerji’s high-octane spy spectacle also featuring Kiara Advani. Both films are dominating single screens and multiplexes.

Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2 movie is finally out in theatres to entertain the audience. War 2’s Telugu version is doing the heavy lifting at the Indian box office.

2. Dharma Productions to release Teja Sajja’s Mirai in Hindi : After the blockbuster Hanuman, young hero Teja Sajja is doing his next movie, Mirai, directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni for People Media Factory.

3. Prominent playback singer Rahul Sipligunj met with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the latter’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Thursday (August 14, 2025). 1. Nine Indian Air Force officers, including fighter pilots who targeted terrorist groups’ headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur and Pakistan military assets in Operation Sindoor were awarded the Vir Chakra – the third-highest wartime gallantry medal.
9 Vir Chakra, 1 Shaurya Chakra, 26 Vayu Sena medals conferred.

2. INS Sandhayak, the first Survey Vessel Large (SVL) of Indian Navy with state-of-the-art hydrography capability has concluded a fruitful maiden visit to Singapore. The ship departed from Changi Naval Base, Singapore on 12 Aug 25, marking the culmination of a goodwill visit aligned with India’s Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR initiative.

3. On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, the Government of India has honoured 1,090 personnel from Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services with Gallantry and Service Medals. The awards recognise exceptional bravery, distinguished records of service, and meritorious contributions in maintaining public safety and national security.

4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that Operation Sindoor carried out by the Armed Forces has emerged as a balanced military response amidst the asymmetric warfare being witnessed across the globe. In his ‘Sandesh to Soldiers’ aired from Akashvani on the eve of 79th Independence Day, Mr Singh termed India’s actions during the operation as a shining example of a precise and successful military strategy.

5. Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi visited Bathinda Military Station in Punjab, to review the prevailing security scenario and assess the operational readiness of the Chetak Corps.

6. The Uttarakhand Cabinet has approved 10 per cent horizontal reservation for direct recruitment in government services to former Agniveers after their return from the army. The Cabinet gave its approval in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

7. The Indian Navy has won the Armed Forces Inter Services Squash Championship 2025-26 by defeating Indian Air Force by 2-1 during the final match played at Indian Air Force’s Base Repair Depot at Chandigarh.

The championship, which was held from August 10-14, 2025, having four teams – Army Red, Army Green, Air Force, and Indian Navy, was aimed to select the best players to represent the Services Squash Team in the upcoming National Squash Championship.
