1. The election of the Lok Sabha Speaker will be held on the 26th of June. The First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha will convene from the 24th of this month.

During the session, oath and affirmation of newly elected members will take place. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and a discussion on her address will also be held in this session. The session of Rajya Sabha will commence on the 27th of this month. The Parliament session will conclude on the 3rd of next month.

2. Shri Ajit Doval has been reappointed as the National Security Advisor and PK Mishra as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister with effect from 10 June.

3. The Ministry of Education has issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories to ensure Right to Free and Compulsory Education entitlements and nutritional support under PM-Poshan to Children with Special Needs.

4. The Government announced a series of proactive measures to ensure menstrual health and hygiene of female students in schools across the states and Union Territories during the board examinations.

5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting on the fire tragedy in Kuwait at his residence in New Delhi. He announced ex-gratia relief of two lakh rupees to the families of the deceased India nationals from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

6. The Uttar Pradesh government has clarified that it is not going to outsource the vaccancies in the police force.

7. Union Minister of Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil reviewed the progress of Namami Gange Mission projects in New Delhi. During the meeting, the Environmental Flows Monitoring System developed by the National Mission for Clean Ganga was launched. This E-flow Monitoring System is an integral component of the PRAYAG Portal.

8. Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu chaired a review meeting with senior officials of the ministry in New Delhi. He urged officials to work for the upliftment of micro-food processing entrepreneurs and the income of farmers.

12. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has permitted Indian colleges to hold admissions twice a year. With the new method, people can be admitted in July and August and January and February.

13. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin started the “Chief Minister’s Mannuyir Kaathu Mannuyir Kaappom” plan, which was a big step toward sustainable farming in Tamil Nadu. With a strong budget of ₹206 crore, this project aims to improve the health and fertility of the soil across the area.

14. The state government of Telangana will launch at least 150 ‘Mahila Shakti’ canteens across Telangana in the next two years. These outlets will offer subsidised food, and will be on the lines of the ‘Indira canteens’ in Karnataka.

15. The India Meteorological Department-IMD has issued orange alert and red warning over North-West, North and East India tomorrow due to the on-going heatwave conditions. The IMD said that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will prevail over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha for the next two days.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over North-East India and West Bengal during the next 7 days.

1. The Congress party has demanded a fair investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court into the NEET examination issue.

In a social media post, Party President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged rigging, paper leaks and corruption in the NEET examination.

2. Former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday shut down all speculation regarding any rift within the Tamil Nadu BJP, which were triggered after a video went viral showing Amit Shah animatedly talking to Tamilisai. Stating that they were merely discussing post-poll concerns.

3. Former BrahMos scientist Nishant Agrawal, who was sentenced to life by a sessions court on June 3 for leaking military secrets to Pakistan, worked in the missile assembly unit at Nagpur and was involved in delivery of close to 80 missiles to the armed forces during his four-year stint.

4. NCRB has launched a Mobile App “NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws” to serve as a comprehensive guide providing complete information about the new criminal laws at one place. The New criminal laws will come into force from the 1st of next month. This App is a compilation of new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

5. The Odisha Information and Public Relations Department on Thursday clarified that the news being circulated on social media about “Govt orders removal of 5T Charter & Mo Sarkar boards” is not based on facts.

A post on the removal of 5T Charter & Mo Sarkar boards purportedly made from a fake account on ‘X’ in the name of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi went viral on social media platforms and news platforms.

6. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K. Annamalai on Thursday, June 13 alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had not taken steps to get the State’s due share of Cauvery river water from Karnataka.

7. The Bombay High Court has refused to grant bail to three alleged members of the banned Popular Front of India, noting they “conspired to transform India into an Islamic country by 2047” and overawe the government by use of criminal force.

1. The Government said that it is keeping a close watch on the market price of wheat. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in a statement said that suitable measures will be undertaken to prevent hoarding by unscrupulous elements and maintain stability in the market price of wheat.

2. The Survey on Household Consumption Expenditure by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has found that Rural India’s average monthly capital expenditure stood 71 percent lower than Urban India in the period from August 2022 to July 2023.

3. The US Federal Reserve Bank (Fed) voted unanimously to keep its benchmark interest rate between 5.25 and 5.50 percent, and said that “modest” progress had been made toward its long-term inflation target of 2 percent.

1. Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and Sansad TV signed an agreement to make Indian art and culture more accessible to the people. Under this initiative, programmes produced by IGNCA will be telecast on Sansad TV.

2. A thirteen-member delegation from Nepal, led by Mr. Bhuwan KC, Executive Chairperson, Film Development Board, and Mr. Gajendra Kumar Thakur, Chairperson of the Nepal Censor Board, visited the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) office, in Mumbai.

This visit aims to develop a close working relationship between the film development and film censor authorities of both countries.

3. Hashtags like ‘Ban Maharaj Film’ trended on social media on Thursday with a section of users calling for a ban on “Maharaj”, claiming the upcoming period drama hurts religious sentiments. 1. A Massive search operations continued on Thursday in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, especially Doda and Reasi, to track down and neutralise terrorists involved in recent attacks in the union territory.

2. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is enhancing its operational capacity in the northern sector by constructing a second runway at the strategically vital Leh airbase in Ladakh.This development aims to accommodate the increasing military and civilian air traffic while ensuring uninterrupted operations, especially during potential hostilities along the border.

3. The Indian Army has released a Request For Information (RFI) for Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADs). The short-range air defence system is a critical aspect of a layered air defence system and is the last line of defence for soldiers on the ground. The system usually employs Man-Portable Surface To Air Missiles (MANPADS) or a gun system such as the Zu-23mm gun (in service with the Indian Army).

4. The confirmation of Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Upendra Dwivedi’s appointment as the next Indian Army Chief has come as a matter of joy for Assam Rifles, as he has had a couple of illustrious stints with the oldest paramilitary force raised in the country, in 1835.

5. The launch of ‘Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 13 (Yard 81)’, the fifth Barge of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, built by MSME Shipyard. M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam for Indian Navy, was undertaken on 10 Jun 24 at M/s Vinayaga Marine Petro Ltd, Mira Bhayandar, Maharashtra (launch site of M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd). The launching Ceremony was presided over by Cmde Manish Vig, General Manager (QA), ND(Mbi).

The Indian Air Force has opened the application process for AFCAT 2 2024, inviting both male and female candidates to apply for 304 vacancies in the Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. The application window is open from May 30, 2024, and will close on 28 June 2024.
