1. 🪁🪁💐 Festival of harvest, Makar Sankranti is being celebrated in different parts of the country today.

Makar Sankranti signals the end of winter and the beginning of longer days. The festival is known with different names in different parts of the country. It is celebrated as Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Uttarayan in Gujarat, Bhogali Bihu in Assam and Poush Sangkranti in West Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

2. Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan will be on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu from today.

3. Ministry of Electronics & IT organised a workshop on BHASHINI Samudaye: Strengthening India’s Language AI Ecosystem in NewDelhi.

4. The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport in Nellore district. Planned on 1,332 acres with private participation, the airport will be AP’s 8th airport, strengthen port-led logistics, boost industry, cut export costs, and support long-term regional economic growth.

5. Chhattisgarh has made a major stride in strengthening digital education systems by leading large states in the creation of APAAR IDs for students. As of early January 2026, the state has achieved nearly 89 per cent coverage.

6. The 25th All India Major Port Cultural Meet 2025–26 concluded on a grand and vibrant note on 11 January 2026 at Jayadev Sadan, Paradip Port, after four days of enthralling cultural celebrations.

7. West Bengal has been placed on high alert after two samples tested positive for Nipah virus, a zoonotic infection known for its high fatality rate.

8. Odisha is set to become the first state in India to plan a comprehensive chronic kidney disease (CKD) registry, with the initiative expected to be rolled out by March 31.

9. The election campaigning for the Maharashtra elections to 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, ended on Tuesday. The voting will be held on January 15 and the results will be out on January 16.

10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to very dense fog over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh.

1. Telangana state Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said the government is considering a plan to enable direct deduction of traffic fines from the bank accounts of vehicle owners. He said the police are imposing challans on traffic violators but later offering discounts on pending fines after a year.

2. National for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) takes Suo Motu cognizance of missing siblings case in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Union Minister Annapurna Devi meets aggrieved family, directs State Police to ensure immediate recovery of children.

3. Major delivery aggregators have agreed to remove the 10-minute delivery service deadline following the government’s intervention. Government sources said that a meeting with leading platforms, including Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato and Swiggy, was held to address concerns related to delivery timelines. The move is aimed at ensuring greater safety, security and improved working conditions for gig workers.

4. The Supreme Court said it will ask states to pay heavy compensation for dog-bite incidents and hold dog feeders accountable. The Court flagged its concern over the lack of implementation of norms on stray animals for the past five years.

5. Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the National Investigation Agency for not properly presenting its case in a terror funding matter involving Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah, asking the agency to justify his detention for more than six years.

6. Telangana Employees To Face 10% Salary Cut For Not Taking Care Of Parents: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated on Monday that the complaints lodged by elder parents against their sons should be taken as a serious issue and ensure that 10 per cent of the salary is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the parents.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the 10th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day in New Delhi today. Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is commemorated on the 14th of January every year to honour the legacy and service of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, who retired on this day in 1953.

2. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi asserted that the 1963 agreement between China and Pakistan regarding the Shaksgam valley in Jammu and Kashmir is illegal. Reiterating New Delhi’s stance on the Valley, the Army Chief said, India does not approve of any activities in the Shaksgam Valley. General Dwivedi said this while addressing a press conference in New Delhi.

3. India has begun inducting the Drishti-10 Starliner, a high-end Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle, into the Indian Navy’s fleet — a move that quietly but decisively strengthens the country’s maritime surveillance and deterrence capabilities. Built in India by “Adani Defence and Aerospace”, the platform represents a critical shift in how India monitors its vast oceanic neighbourhood at a time of rising strategic competition in the Indian Ocean Region.

4. India is reportedly working to expand warship exports as part of the ongoing push to revamp its shipbuilding industry. The Ministry of Defense (MOD) has already issued directives to the state-owned shipyards, instructing the facilities to build their capacities for export orders.
