1. 💐🌸 HAPPY VAISAKHI: The Spring Harvest of Punjab : It is observed with different names. In Tamil Nadu, the New Year is celebrated as Puthandu, Pohela Boishakh in West Bengal, Vishu in Kerala, Bihu in Assam and Pana Sankranti in Orissa. This day is also celebrated to commemorate the formation of Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699. This festival is celebrated on April 13th as per the Gregorian calendar. But after a set of 36 years, then the festival is celebrated on April 14th.

2. The nation pays homage to the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar on his 134th birth anniversary today.

3. Sukhbir Badal re-elected Shiromani Akali Dal chief
Sukhbir resigned as the SAD president on November 16, 2024, after being declared ”tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Akal Takht.

4. The Delhi Government organized a walkathon in the national capital on the occasion of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the walkathon in which thousands of children participated.

5. A state-level cooperative conference is being organized in Madhya Pradesh under the International Cooperative Year. Union Cooperative and Home Minister Amit Shah attended it.

6. In Telangana, Hyderabad hosts regional edition of WAM- WAVES Anime and Manga Contest.

7. Mizoram, Palm Sunday, which is known as ‘Tumkau Ni’ in Mizo, was celebrated in all parts of the state with solemnity and religious fervour. Special church services were held, and Palm Sunday processions were taken out in different parts of the state. Believers of the Christian faith observed Palm Sunday, commemorating the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as King of Israel.

8. The Rajasthan government has declared 25 central and state-level schemes as flagship programmes, which will now come under the direct and continuous monitoring of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). These include critical initiatives such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, reflecting the government’s intensified focus on timely execution and effective governance.

9. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Housing and Urban Development Department successfully concluded a week-long campaign yesterday under the ‘SVANidhi Se Samriddhi’ and ‘Main Bhi Digital’ initiatives. Held from April 7.

10. Odisha state had introduced a comprehensive health insurance scheme to enhance healthcare access for its citizens. The initiative merges the central Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana with the state-specific Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana.

11. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch multiple projects in Haryana on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti today. The Prime Minister will flag off a commercial flight from Hisar to Ayodhya and lay the foundation stone of the new terminal building of Hisar airport.

12. Recently, the Punjab government imposed a ban on the cultivation of hybrid rice varieties, citing concerns over groundwater conservation and environmental pollution. This decision has ignited a fierce debate among farmers, environmentalists, and the rice milling industry.

12. The Namami Gange Mission 2.0 (NGM 2.0) is an extension of the original Namami Gange Programme initiated in 2014. This mission aims to effectively reduce pollution and rejuvenate the River Ganga. It is set to continue until March 2026.

1. Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 26/11 Mumbai attacks conspirator, was questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for the second consecutive day to probe a larger conspiracy of the series of coordinated strikes in 2008.

Police arrest 118 people in connection with the violence. He is kept in a highly secured cell, inside the NIA’s head office at CGO complex in New Delhi.

2. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 52.67 kilograms of methamphetamine, worth over 52 crore rupees on outskirts of Mizoram. Two persons involved in trafficking the drug were arrested.

The Haryana Sports Department has found itself in a difficult position after wrestler-turned-MLA Vinesh Phogat, despite being asked to choose between Rs 4 crore cash reward, a plot or a Group A job, has sought both the cash and the plot. The request has left the authorities uncertain about how to proceed.

On March 25, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the Cabinet had decided to allow Phogat — now a Congress MLA — to opt for one of the three benefits offered to a silver medallist, treating her as a special case following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics for exceeding the weight limit.

1. Actor Prabhas’ superhit movie VARSHAM set for a grand re-release on 23 May 2025. Featuring Trisha Krishnan as the female lead, Varsham was directed by the late Sobhan, produced by MS Raju, and boasts a memorable soundtrack composed by Devi Sri Prasad. It was released on 14 January 2004.

2. Bollywood horror movie Chhorii, starring popular actress Nushrratt Bharuccha, was one of the films that skipped its theatrical release and had a direct digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video during the Covid lockdown. Following the emphatic response to Chhorii, the makers have now released the much-awaited sequel, Chhorii 2, again on Amazon Prime Video.

3. Actor Rana Daggubati praised Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday’s Kesari Chapter 2, calling it a “must-watch” historical courtroom drama. The film releases on April 18.

1. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited Vajra Corps headquarters in Jalandhar and interacted with veterans, felicitating four distinguished ex-servicemen with ‘Veteran Achievers Award’. This recognition honoured their contributions to society, youth empowerment and nation-building.

2. INS Sunayna, designated as Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR ship, entered the Port of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania on 12 Apr 25. The ship had sailed from Karwar, Karnataka, on 05 Apr with 44 naval personnel from nine Friendly Foreign Nations (FFNs) of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), embarked as part of the ship’s crew. The FFN include Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and South Africa.

3. India has marked a major milestone in its maritime capabilities with the completion of diving trials for the indigenous Diving Support Vessel (DSV) Nistar, built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL). This advanced vessel enhances India’s submarine rescue operations, deep-sea exploration, and naval self-reliance.

4. In Jammu and Kashmir General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Jammu-based White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P. K Mishra, visited Krishna Ghati and Bhimber Gali sectors to review security situation.

4. India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) recently completed successful release trials of the Long-Range Glide Bomb (LRGB) named ‘Gaurav’. Conducted from April 8 to 10, 2025, these trials took place using the Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft.
