1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rain in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh for today.

Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid on Thursday said he would support the INDIA bloc candidates in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections if the opposition grouping promises to restore Article 370 whenever they come to power at the Centre. Rashid came out of jail after being granted interim bail by a special court on Wednesday to campaign for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

8. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has indicated that he will soon give his nod to HYDRAA to clear illegal constructions in the 50-metre buffer zone of the Musi river.

9. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced that hydropower projects with a total installed capacity of 12,500 MW will become operational in the next two years. These projects, undertaken by central public sector units (CPSUs) like NHPC, NEEPCO, THDC, and SJVN, will significantly boost the state’s economy.

10. Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rainfall during the past two days inundated a garden on the Taj Mahal premises on Thursday.

11. The Telangana Government is gearing up to conduct a mega caste census in the State. The newly nominated 4-member BC Commission headed by G Niranjan has begun the exercise the day after taking charge and steps are being taken to complete it as soon as possible after a whirlwind tour of the State.

12. Andhrapradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has said the government would encourage the setting up of micro, small and medium industries in villages in ways to benefit farmers.

13. Veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury passed away on Thursday. He was 72. He was admitted to the hospital on August 19 for treatment of a pneumonia-like chest infection. His body will be donated to AIIMS for teaching and research purposes. PM Modi expressed his sorrow over the death of Sitaram Yechury.

1. Supreme Court is set to deliver its verdict on Friday in a plea filed by jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail and challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the excise policy case.

2. Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member and Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar, accused in 2016 of allegedly raping a woman who had gone to his office for help to obtain a ration card, was acquitted by a Delhi court Wednesday.

4. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday said he will not share any public platform with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in view of people’s outcry over the RG Kar hospital impasse. The chief minister is in charge of the home and health departments.

5. Two protesters were killed and 11 others were injured in police firing during a drive to evict alleged encroachers in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district of Assam on Thursday.

6. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she was willing to resign for the sake of justice after a tense two-hour standoff between the state and protesting doctors, ratcheting up the political controversy over the grisly rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata last month.

1. US-based short seller Hindenburg Research has made a fresh charge against the Adani Group, claiming that Swiss authorities have frozen more than USD 310 million in funds across several bank accounts linked to the money laundering and securities investigation of the Gautam Adani-led group.

1. Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan movie is all set to release in Japan theatres on 29th Nov, 2024. Jawan, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Atlee.

2. Actress Kajal Aggarwal on Thursday confirmed reports that she is set to star in Sikandar, fronted by Salman Khan. He will play the titular role in the movie, which will be directed by A R Murugadoss. It also features Rashmika Mandanna.

1. The Indian Army contingent departed today for the 5th edition of India-Oman Joint Military Exercise AL NAJAH. The exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 13th to 26th September 2024 at Rabkoot Training Area in Salalah, Oman. Exercise AL NAJAH has been held biennially since 2015, alternating between India and Oman. Last edition of the same exercise was conducted at Mahajan in Rajasthan.

2. The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence has issued order for One Rank One Pension Revision with Effect From 1st July 2024.
