1. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 154.50 crore mark on Wednesday. Out of the total vaccination, more than 89.75 crore Vaccine doses were administered as first dose while 64.48 crore doses given as second dose. Union Health Ministry said, more than 26.19 lakh Precaution Doses for the identified categories of beneficiaries for COVID vaccination have been administered so far. Over 2.96 crore vaccine doses have been given to Children aged 15 to 18 years so far.
2. PM Modi will interact with Chief Ministers of all the States on Thursday at 4.40 PM through video conferencing. During the meeting, the Prime Minister will review the Covid situation in the country and take stock of the measures implemented to curb the spread of the infection.
3. The govt has informed that so far 4,868 Omicron cases have been detected in 28 states and Union Territories in the country
4. The Supreme Court has appointed former SC Judge, Indu Malhotra, as the Chairperson to head the inquiry committee, along with other members. The inquiry committee will look into the alleged security breach of Prime Minister’s Punjab visit on 5th January this year.
5. Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital of Delhi conducted a study on the Omicron variant which shows that the virus is mutating but the disease severity is mild.
6. World will see for the first time, participation of more than a crore people in Global Surya Namaskar programme on the occasion of Makar Sakranti on 14th of January. The Global Surya Namaskar Demonstration programme is being organized by the Ministry of AYUSH under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
7. Development of North Eastern Region, DoNER, Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday chaired a review meeting to monitor the preparedness of the eight states of the North Eastern Region with respect to the COVID-19 situation.
8. Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar on Wednesday virtually launched Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar 2021-2022. He said that National Innovation week will inspire people to work collaboratively to realize the dream of activating India 2.0, fueled with the spirit of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. these awards recognise and inspire those schools which have undertaken exemplary work in the field of water, sanitation and hygiene.
9. Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) including Delhi, Madras, Mandi, and Indore have got new directors appointed on Monday. IIT Bombay’s Professor Rangan Banerjee has been appointed as new director of IIT Delhi.
10. NEW APPOINTMENT :
Eminent rocket scientist S Somanath has been appointed as the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as well as the Space Secretary, a Personnel Ministry order issued on Wednesday said.
Mr Somanath, who is at present Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), will succeed K Sivan who completes his extended tenure on Friday (14 Jan).
11. TAMIL NADU : PM Modi inaugurated 11 New Govt Medical Colleges across Tamil Nadu and the new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil in Chennai via video conferencing on Wednesday evening.
12.TELANGANA CM K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday protested against the Centre’s decision to increase fertiliser prices and threatened countrywide protests if they aren’t lowered. As per a statement by Telangana CMO, Rao said the hike will “break the back of the farming community”. He has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against the price hike.
13. UTTAR PRADESH CM Yogi Adityanath is likely to contest the state’s upcoming Assembly elections from Ayodhya, according to reports. This comes after the BJP’s core committee, which Adityanath is a part of, met on Tuesday in New Delhi to discuss possible candidates for the upcoming elections. UP will go to polls from February 10.
14. PUNJAB CM Charanjit Singh Channi has said that Congress should declare its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming state Assembly polls.
15. Wipro on Wednesday said it will shut down all its offices globally for the next four weeks following a surge in the COVID-19 cases. The company’s CEO Thierry Delaporte said.
16. Tata Consultancy Services’ revenues rose 12% YoY in Q3 of FY22 to ₹9,769 crore according to the company’s exchange filing. TCS also won new deals worth over ₹56,126 crore. Its revenue from operations rose 16% to ₹48,885 crore as compared to ₹42,015 crore in Q3 of FY21. The company has also approved buyback of shares worth up to ₹18,000 crore.
17. Lata Mangeshkar’s sister Usha Mangeshkar has said that the veteran singer is fine, adding that COVID-19 has no impact on her. ” Her sister Usha said.
18. Actor Siddharth booked by police over alleged lewd comment against Saina Nehwal: A case was registered against actor Siddharth by the Cyber Crime wing of Hyderabad Police over his alleged lewd tweet against shuttler Saina Nehwal. “A woman named Prerna l lodged a complaint against Siddharth for sexist remarks against Nehwal,” an official said, adding that the case was registered on the basis of the complaint.
19. Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane has said that since January last year, there have been positive developments along the northern and western borders.
20. India and China hold 14th Corps Commander-level talks to resolve LAC Standoff: After a gap of three months, the fresh round of talks between Area commanders of the Indian Army and People’s Liberation Army, PLA, took, at the border meeting point at Moldo on the Chinese side.
21. India is cautious about Chinese tactics with the infrastructure built up including the bridge on Pangong Tso and other military establishments and communications. However, has maintained bonhomie with exchange of courtesies on the eve of New year.
22. Gen Naravane said that the Army continues to maintain a high level of vigil and alertness on the northern border.
23. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday successfully flight tested the Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM). The indigenously developed MPATGM is a low weight, “fire and forget” missile.
24. China’s new border law, which came into effect on January 1, is unlikely to have military ramifications, but in case of one, the Army is more than adequately prepared to handle it with all the capability enhancements and rebalancing of forces it has undertaken in the last one-and-a-half year, Army chief Gen. MM Naravane said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
